3. Interview arrangement
** Selection factors in addition to HKDSE result are subject weighting, band and tie-breakers like SPN, other
Xs, interview and OEA.
4. Calculation of Scores for Applicants with More than One Sitting in HKDSE Examination
University Details
HKUST Once the minimum entry requirements have been met, the best results achieved
in all sittings will be used for calculating admissions scores.
HKU In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results
achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few
programmes which only consider the latest results. Few programmes may also
impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters. The policy on the calculation of scores in
combined sittings of HKDSE for the 2015-16 exercise will be finalized at a later
stage, which will be posted on our website http://www. Hku.hk/dse.
PolyU PolyU does not penalize applicants for subsequent attempts in the same public
examination and considers the best grades in all public examination attempts.
Similar subjects will, however, be considered once in calculating the admission
scores.
CityU CityU accepts repeat results and will count the best results for meeting its
entrance requirements and for the calculation of admission scores.
HKBU For 2014 entry, we accept repeat results and will count the best results for
meeting our entrance requirements and for the calculation of admission scores.
The arrangement for 2015 entry and onwards is subject to confirmation after a
review of the experience in the former exercises.
2015-16 P.12
CUHK Most programmes offered by CUHK consider the best results in the same subject
taken by a candidate in more than one sitting of HKDSE. Some programmes may
have specific arrangements and the admission scores of candidates seeking
admission on the strength of results from more than one sitting of HKDSE may be
adjusted. Details of calculation of scores in more than one sitting of HKDSE for the
2016-17 entry will be finalised and posted at the admissions website
(www.cuhk.edu.hk/adm).
LU Passes in HKDSE subjects can be obtained at one or more sittings. The best
grade for a subject will be used in the calculation of the score in case of multiple
attempts. There is no penalty or mark deducted for repeated sittings of a
subject.
HKIE Applicants for Mathematics major should possess Level 3 or above in HKDSE
Mathematics (Compulsory Part) and Level 2 or above in Module 1 or Module 2 of
Mathematics (Extended Part).
"Combined sittings" is allowed for HKDSE in the calculation of academic scores.
If an applicant has taken the examination in a subject more than once, only the
best result for that subject will be counted. No score deduction for repeated
subjects.
OUHK The University will calculate the best grades attained by an applicant from the
most current two sittings of HKDSE taken by the applicant. There is no grade
penalty for multiple sittings.

Mathematics extended modules
University Arrangement for M1/M2
LU Applicants cannot use Mathematics Extended Module as a substitute for the Mathematics
Compulsory Part, nor can it be counted as an elective subject for the purpose of meeting
the General Entrance Requirements
HKIE
OUHK
CUHK Mathematics extended modules (M1 - Calculus and Statistics; M2 - Algebra and Calculus)
may be included as an elective. If students take both M1 and M2, they will be counted as
one subject only.
HKUST
CityU
HKU If the individual programme requires specified elective subject like M1/M2, this should refer
to one best elective. HKBU
PolyU
Students not having the level requirement for the elective subject for meeting the general
entrance requirement may be specially considered if they have attained Level 2 or above
in one of the Extended Modules of Mathematics.
Concerning admission score calculation, programmes which have specified the Extended
Modules of Mathematics (i.e. M1 or M2) as subjects with the highest weighting, if the
weighted subject score of M1 or M2 is higher than that of the "best weighted elective"
under the "4X + 1" model, or the "last best weighted subject" under models (ii) and (iii)
above, the "best weighted elective" or the "last best weighted subject", and M1 or M2 will
each carry 50% weight in the admission score calculation.
Admission Score=158 (M1 is not considered)
