Driving Towards a Cleaner Tomorrow
Due to climate change and the increasing scarcity of resources, products now have to meet even stricter environmental requirements. Growing environmental awareness and rising energy prices mean that ecological considerations are playing a greater role in customers’ purchasing decisions. With the “Design for Environment” concept, Bosch ensures that material specifications as well as energy and resource efficiency are taken into account when new products are being planned.
Protecting the environment is an important pillar of Bosch business activities. In all its divisions, the
company is working on technologies and services that will make greater energy efficiency and lesser emissions possible. Intensive research activities play a major role in making Bosch a market and innovation leader in electronic, powertrain, and safety systems. In diesel and gasoline engines as well, there are technological possibilities for reducing consumption even further. On the basis of this improved technology, even stricter CO2 limits that could be stipulated by future emission norms would be complied.

Gasoline Direct Injection
Bosch is widely regarded as a pioneer in the area of gasoline direct injection. Bosch launched this technology in 1951, initially for the two-stroke engine of the compact Gutbrod Superior car. When gasoline direct injection is used in combination with turbocharging and electronic engine management, it results in approximately 15 percent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and achieves this without sacrificing torque or performance.Engines with gasoline direct injection

AbstractIntegrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) is one of the few technologies that will help in reducing both maintenance and operational costs, while improving the overall safety of an aircraft. It also helps in moving away from conservative design philosophies. Hence IVHM is increasingly being adopted in various aircraft programs. IVHM requires a multi-disciplinary approach bringing together the best of mechanical engineering, sensor technologies, communication and data analytics.
Aircraft landing gear (LG) is one of the most critical systems in an aircraft which requires the maximum maintenance effort, next only to the propulsion system. In this paper a solution approach for IVHM of the landing gear system for a typical transport aircraft is presented. Application is demonstrated through a typical use case of the landing gear retraction mechanism.
