Three basic maintenance forms:

● Run to failure

● Preventive maintenance

- running hours - calender data - OEM advise

● Condition Based Maintenance (CBM)“the continuous or periodic measurement and interpretation of data to determine the need for maintenance”

1. Vibration analysis 2. Fluid analysis3. Infrared technology4. Failure analysis (& technical consultancy by TNO)5. Engine performance (combustion pressure)

4. Condition Based Maintenance

Measurements performed:

- Factory, Harbour & Sea Acceptance Tests- Periodic maintenance (2 – 3 months)- Large equipment overhaul ( ship overhaul 3 – 4 years)- Troubleshooting- After repair critical installations

Overall: 60 – 70 % periodic 40 – 30 % troubleshooting (worldwide)

- Maritime study –strategic vision on the future RN –

* lower violence spectrum * less people onboard (50 vs. 140)

* different maintenance concept

- More cost effectiveness - Less Organic Level Maintenance (OLM)

- Sharing information with companies outside NAVY

- Follow innovative (maintenance) techniques

- Work closely with TNO/ IHC Merwede/ NLDA/ Maritime Campus Netherlands etc.
