Seller Insight Merrievale is a beautiful family home that is enveloped by around three-and-a-half acres of glorious grounds. It sits on the edge of the popular village of Shorne, and enjoys an enviable setting that is not only

picturesque but also extremely convenient. Before purchasing Merrievale in 1986 we had been living in a beautiful 17th Century cottage in Shorne for around seven years. We then moved out of the village very briefly, but my husband was always keen to move back, and when he discovered Merrievale he persuaded me to come and take a look. We stepped through the gates, saw how beautiful the garden was and that was it, we were sold. There was a wonderful feeling of peace as soon as we set foot on the property, and that is a feeling that we still get to this day. I have to say that the house was crying out for some TLC when we bought it. We are only the third family to have owned it in its lifetime, so it was in need of modernisation, which we have done, but in an extremely sympathetic way. There are still lots of lovely original features, but the décor isn’t at all fussy as we’ve tried to take it back to a very minimalistic look. The garden is a stunning feature of the property, and the house sits perfectly within the grounds. The entire space is divided into different areas, including a rose garden, a pretty cottage garden and an area for growing vegetables. It’s extremely beautiful, particularly in the summer. Another aspect of this house that we have loved is its location. It’s easy to get just about anywhere. The M2 is within easy reach, Ebbsfleet is around ten minutes away, as is Bluewater, and in 45 minutes we can be at the Channel Tunnel. We particularly love popping into London for a spot of shopping or a trip to the theatre. The entire house is wonderfully spacious and has a lovely feeling about it, but I particularly love the TV room. It’s such a cosy room, even though it’s relatively large, especially when the fire is roaring away in the winter. It also enjoys a beautiful view of the garden.

The garden is simply stunning. Once you shut the gate you are in your very own oasis. It’s peaceful and beautiful and we absolutely adore it. Because of the size of the house we have been able to hold various significant family occasions including a wedding. I think we’ll miss absolutely everything about this house when the time comes to leave. It has given us so many wonderful memories. I’ll particularly miss the garden, the peace and the privacy. It’s a beautiful home but it’s time for another family to enjoy it.”
