CORPUS CHRISTI — Drinking a magic potion is the stuff of many a fairy tale. The hero arrives at the magic hidden castle and a voice out of nowhere speaks: “If you drink this you will be eternally young, or you will slay the dragon, or you will….” Whatever the promise, whatever the gift given – it is ‘in the drinking’ of the magical ‘stuff’ that the miracle happens. Ancient religion depended upon the killing of people, graduating eventually to the killing of animals. Blood was often sprinkled upon the people (as in the scriptures today) and in this symbolic gesture sins

were forgiven, reconciliation occurred. Some realities simply have to be accepted. The gods are welcoming us back – the blood of animals frees us from our sins. In biblical language the sin of Adam and Eve that scarred our humanity is finally reconciled, healed, forgiven through the blood of Jesus Christ and his total sacrifice for us. Eating and drinking of the body and blood of Christ in Eucharist is accepting Christ’s sacrifice and love for us. There is no magic – it is symbolic action which makes what we celebrate be true. A kiss is just a kiss. Or is it? In fact, it is much more. A kiss symbolically delivers the love from one spirit to another. How else could it be? How else could one person reveal to another the mountain of feelings, aspirations, convictions, willingness to ‘die for their love’ - except through a symbolic gesture (kiss) that connects two persons, that allows touch to express and reveal, that opens through the sensuous that pathway of love to travel and to reach its mark. A gesture, a symbol is so simple, so direct, - what is symbolized becomes truth and reality. Jesus gave his love to us totally, freely, without limits or conditions, and in the process expressed perfect forgiveness – “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” If a person drinks a magic potion – there is a promised result. What do you think should happen if we eat and drink the body and blood of Christ? Is there magic? Should we feel something? The best of our tradition says that we don’t just receive something, but we become what we eat and drink. St. Paul says: “You are, then, the body of Christ.” There is a big responsibility attached to receiving a kiss. Do I want to accept this love? Am I willing to love back? Will I let someone tell me all that their love implies? Will this love change me, and do I want that change to occur? ~ Do I want to accept the body and blood of Christ? Am I willing to love back? Will I let someone (Christ) tell me all that His love implies? Will this love change me, and do I want that change to occur? ~ AMEN is our answer to all of that!

From January 2017 to January 2018 we had ‘5’ fundraisers at local food venues. Parishioners were invited to take a Sunday flyer for a specific food venue

and present it at the time of food purchase – a percentage then was returned to the parish. These are the results: Baja Fresh $22.11 & $12.36; California Pizza Kitchen $211.12; The Habit $160.98; Panda

$41.64. Total: $448.21. We appreciate our local businesses giving back to the

community. Special thanks to Marilyn Chung-May for establishing the contacts with these restaurants and opening the door for some additional financial support for our parish! As they sayH “every little bit helps!”

RETIREMENT FUND FOR ARCHDIOCESAN PRIESTS — 2018 Next weekend all parishioners will be asked to support

generously to the Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan

Priests. A special collection will be taken up at all Masses.

This is your invitation to say “Thank You” to our current

and future retired priests who have served and many who

still serve all of us so faithfully through their priestly

ministry. When you give to the 2018 Priest Retirement

Fund, you help support our retired priests right here in the

Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

FATHER’S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES

The Father’s Day Novena will begin on Sunday, June 17, through Monday, June 25. Cards and envelopes are on the tables by the altar. They may be placed in the regular collection or left at the church office. The names will be placed on the altar during the novena.

Lydia Pareja who is celebrating his 25th Anniversary of

his Priestly Ministry presiding at the 8:00AM Mass.

CORPUS CRISTI — El beber una poción mágica ocurre en muchos cuentos de hadas. El héroe llega al castillo mágico escondido y escucha una voz: "Si bebes esto, serás eternamente joven, o matarás al dragón, o harás ...". Cualquiera que sea la promesa, o el regalo otorgado es 'al beber' tal 'poción' mágica que ocurre el milagro. La religión antigua dependía de la matanza de personas, gradualmente convirtiéndose en matanza de animales. Con frecuencia se rociaba sangre sobre la gente (como en las escrituras de hoy) y en este gesto simbólico los pecados

eran perdonados y eran reconciliados. Algunas realidades simplemente tienen que ser aceptadas. Los dioses nos dan la bienvenida: la sangre de los animales nos libera de nuestros pecados. En el lenguaje bíblico, el pecado de Adán y Eva que marcó nuestra humanidad es finalmente reconciliado, sanado, perdonados a través de la Sangre de Jesucristo y su sacrificio total por nosotros. Comer y beber el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo en la Eucaristía es aceptar el sacrificio y el amor de Cristo por nosotros. No hay magia, es una acción simbólica que hace que lo que celebramos sea verdad. Un beso es solo un beso. O... acaso lo es? De hecho, es mucho más. Un beso entrega simbólicamente el amor de un espíritu a otro. ¿Cómo más podría ser? ¿De qué otra manera podría una persona revelarle a otro los muchos sentimientos, aspiraciones, convicciones, y la disposición a "morir por su amor", excepto a través de un gesto simbólico (beso) que conecta a dos personas, que permite tocar y expresar, que se abre a través del seductor camino del amor para viajar y alcanzar su marca. Un gesto, un símbolo es tan simple, tan directo, lo simbólico se convierte en verdad y en realidad. Jesús nos dio su amor totalmente, libremente, sin límites ni condiciones, y en el proceso expresó un perfecto perdón: "Padre, perdónalos, porque ahora saben lo que hacen". Si una persona bebe una poción mágica, hay un resultado a la promesa. ¿Qué crees que debería pasar si comemos y bebemos el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo? ¿Hay magia? ¿Deberíamos sentir algo? Lo mejor de nuestra tradición dice que no solo recibimos algo, sino que nos convertimos en lo que comemos y bebemos. San Pablo dice: "Tú eres, entonces, el Cuerpo de Cristo". Existe una gran responsabilidad en recibir un beso. ¿Quiero aceptar este amor? ¿Estoy dispuesto a responder con amor? ¿Dejaré que alguien me diga todo lo que implica su amor? ¿Me cambiará este amor? deseo que ese cambio ocurra? ~ ¿Quiero aceptar el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo? ¿Estoy dispuesto a responder con amor? ¿Dejaré que alguien (Cristo) me diga todo lo que implica su amor? ¿Me cambiará este amor, y deseo que ese cambio ocurra? ~ AMEN es nuestra respuesta a todo eso!

comida locales. Se les invitó a los feligreses a

llevar volantes para lugares de comida específicos

para presentarlos con su compra. Un porcentaje

luego fue devuelto a la parroquia. Estos son los

resultados: Baja Fresh $22.11 y $12.36; California

Pizza Kitchen $211.12; The Habit $160.98; Panda $41.64. Total:

$448.21. Agradecemos nuestros negocios locales que le

devuelven a la comunidad. ¡Un agradecimiento especial a

sus hijos deben saber qué hacer si el detector de humo se activa y

los niño mayores deben saber cómo usar un extintor de incendios.

Did You Know? — Practice fire safety in the home

Developing a family fire plan for evacuation can save lives. Children should

be a part of the planning, and should know which exits to use to get out of

the house and where to meet once they are safely outside. Smoke detectors

and fire extinguishers should also be part of your plan; children should know

what to do if the smoke detector goes off, and older children should be
