One more Pro-Life answer to another false Pro-Choice arguments: Many individuals honestly believe that abortion is only used in certain, unavoidably rare circumstances and that this procedure is never be used as a method of birth control. Statistics provided by pro-choice advocates show: (a) only a very small percentage of abortions are done for the so-called "hard cases" such as rape; (b) approximately half of all abortions are repeat abortions; and (c) over 35% of all U.S. women will have at least one abortion by age 45. Over 3,500 babies lose their life to abortion daily, a number that proves these procedures are not rare. Abortion apologists are now switching gears in their arguments by now selling the idea that even if a woman chooses to make regular use of abortions as birth control, it is a private matter and is no one else’s business.

Our tax dollars pay for abortions and since abortion has been legal, we have been forced to bear the financial burden of skyrocketing pregnancy rates of unmarried mothers. It’s your tax dollars; where do you want those

The Truth about Planned Parenthood (P.P.): Did you know that P.P. is the largest abortion provider in the U.S.? Its founder, Margaret Sanger, was an eugenics proponent, and acknowledged that her life’s goal was to promote contraception. She published pamphlets on how to use contraceptive devises as early as 1914. As she continued her “advocacy for reproductive rights”, she encouraged clinical research on birth control, which lead to the development of the IUD and hormonal birth control (the Pill). P.P. was a vocal advocate to liberalize abortion law in the 1960s, ending in the repeal of anti-abortion law in 1963. In 1973, abortion was legalized through the U.S. Supreme Court’s infamous ruling on the Rowe v. Wade case. P.P. then started its major abortion provider role. Do you have any baby bottles at home? Strong Catholic Families In the Catholic tradition, the family holds a special place - especially in the formation of faith. Check out the parent and family resources at http://nfcym.org/scfresources.

The Ministry of Catechesis Every week catechists share the awesome news of God's love for each of us and for all of us. Over the summer months the Religious Education office is charged with inviting and forming parishioners to serve as catechists for children ages 3-18. SRRE

catechists assist parents in their role as the primary catechists of their children. Is God calling you to explore the ministry of catechesis? Please contact Mary Beaudoin for more information on becoming part of our SRRE catechetical team.

Catholic School Students – Sacramental Preparation Children in Catholic schools need to register with their parish Religious Education office because sacrament preparation and celebration take place in the child’s home parish, not in the Catholic school they attend (though Catholic schools assist with aspects of the preparation). If your child attends a Catholic school (other than St. Raphael) and will be entering grade 1, 2, 7 or 8 in September, please register online at www.straphaels.org/religious-education. We need to be able to contact you with important information, including meetings and preparation guidelines. Thanks!

Confirmation Service Project Teens preparing for Confirmation in spring 2020 are working on their Confirmation Service Projects. The project consists of ten or more hours of service and a reflection paper. Giving both time and talent, through acts of service, is integral to Christian life. Through Baptism we share in the priesthood of Christ, in his prophetic and royal mission. The new life begun in us at Baptism is strengthened in the sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation candidates and parents can find service information and forms at www.straphaels.org/confirmation-1. Record of Service and Reflection Paper are due on September 3.

Faith Formation for People with Special Needs Do you or someone you know have a child/adult with special needs in their family? Has the child/adult received the sacraments? Does the family feel like they can’t come to church with their family member with special needs? We want to help! Please contact Mary Beaudoin in the SRRE Office. All are welcome!

Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love In November 2018, the United States Conference of Catholic

Bishops published a pastoral letter against racism. Here is an excerpt:

With the positive changes that arose from the civil rights movement and related civil rights legislation, some may believe that racism is no longer a major affliction of our society—that it is only found in the

hearts of individuals who can be dismissed as ignorant or unenlightened. But racism still profoundly affects our culture, and it has no place in the Christian heart. This evil causes great harm to its victims, and it corrupts the souls of those who harbor racist or prejudicial thoughts. The persistence of the evil of racism is why we are writing this letter now. People are still being harmed, so action is still needed.

What is needed, and what we are calling for, is a genuine conversion of heart, a conversion that will compel change, and the reform of our institutions and society. Conversion is a long road to travel for the individual. Moving our nation to a full realization of the promise of liberty, equality, and justice for all is even more challenging. However, in Christ we can find the strength and the grace necessary to make that journey.

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intention for August Families, Schools of Human Growth: That families, through their life of prayer and love, become ever more clearly “schools of true human growth.”

Q. What are the benefits of “faith sharing” and discussion in an AFF setting?

A. Many authors have addressed this question. Here is a brief summary of some of their thinking.

Discussion encourages us to articulate what we believe and how we experience our beliefs.

Group interchange can strengthen our faith and help us understand other people’s ways of thinking about theirs.

Sharing life experiences in a prayerful context helps to clarify interconnections between faith and life.

“Of fundamental importance is the dialogical approach which, while recognizing that all are called to the obedience of faith, respects the basic freedom and autonomy of adults and encourages them in an open and cordial dialogue. In this way, they can make known their needs and can participate, as they should… in their own catechesis and that of others.” #57
