GENERALSECTIONA1 INTRODUCTIONTOTHEHANDBOOKThepurposeofthishandbookistoprovidetheschoolcommunitywithacomprehensivelistofpoliciesandproceduresthatgovernthedaytodayrunningoftheSchool.Wehopethiswillensurethatourfamilieshaveabetterunderstandingofhowwefunction,andknowwhattodoiftheyhaveaspecificqueryorconcern.Asthishandbookisupdatedannually,welookforwardtoregularfeedbackfromyoutohelpimprovefutureeditions.Ifyoufeelthatthereareotherquestionsthatarenotaddressedinthishandbook,pleasecontacttheschoolwithyoursuggestionsorideas.Ourcurriculumisbasedona“bestpractice”educationalframeworkthataimstodevelopinquiring,knowledgeable,andcaringyoungpeoplewhohelptocreateabetterandmorepeacefulworldthroughunderstandingtheirdualpurpose.Oneofourdefiningattributesisourstrongbeliefineducatingthewholechildandfocusoncharacterdevelopment.Wearecommittedtofosteringthedevelopmentofresponsibleandcaringfutureworldcitizens.Dailylifeinschoolinvolvesraisingstudent’sawarenessandappreciationfortheSONLearnerProfileattributesandattitudes.Thesearethefoundationalstepsincreatinginternationallymindedindividuals.Inadditiontoprovidingstudentswithastrongacademicandspiritualeducation,wealsovalueandpromoteactiveparticipationinsportsandthearts.Wecometogetherregularlytocelebrateourstudent’sachievementsandsharewitheachotherwhatwehavebeenlearningaboutinourclasses.AtSchooloftheNations,wehaveanopendoorphilosophy.Parents1arewelcometomakearrangementstomeetwithteachers.Equally,teachers

A2 S.O.N.VISIONANDMISSIONSTATEMENTAsanintegralcomponentoftheeducationalprogramsoftheBadiFoundation,theSchooloftheNationsisdedicatedtonurturingthephysical,intellectualandspiritualdevelopmentofchildrenandyouth,anddevelopingtheircapabilitiestocontributetothewell-beingoftheirfamiliesandcommunities.Foundedin1988,weeducatestudentsfromkindergartenthroughsecondary,employingcurriculathatdevelopcharacterandbuildcapacityforservicewhilepromotingacademicexcellence,alongwithinternationallyrecognizedprogrammessuchasInternationalBaccalaureate(IB)andInternationalGeneralCertificateofSecondaryEducation(IGCSE).TheschoolseekstocontributetothedevelopmentoftheMacauSpecialAdministrativeRegionthroughengagementwiththebroadercommunity,includingschoolexchanges,seminarsandtheserviceofitsteachersandstudents.TheSchooloftheNationsalsoservesasaresourcefortheadvancementofeducationalprocessesinthePeoples’RepublicofChinathroughexchangeswithschoolsandeducationbureaus.

A5.4 StudentIntegrityAllhomework,assignments,testsandexamsareexpectedtorepresentthestudent’sowneffort.Parentsandtutorsmayassistthestudenttounderstandassignmentsbutshouldnotdictateanswers.Allformsofcheatingontestsorexams,plagiarismandotherformsofdeceptiontoobtaincreditwithouteffortareuniversallyrecognizedasimproperconduct.Suchconductisnotacceptableandmarkswillnotbeawardedforworkthatdoesnotrepresentthestudents’personaleffort.A6 EQUALOPPORTUNITYTheSchooloftheNationswillnotdiscriminateagainstanyoneonthebasisofrace,religion,nationalityorsex.AnypersonwhohasaconcernregardingdiscriminationshouldbringthemattertotheattentionoftheDirector.A7 COOPERATIVEDISCIPLINEAtSchooloftheNations,CooperativeDisciplineistheapproachtakentoclassroommanagement.Thisapproachassistsstudentstounderstandthegoalsoftheirbehaviourandchoosethemostappropriateconducttoachievetheirgoals.Parentsareinvitedtofamiliarisethemselveswiththeprinciplesandtechniquesofthismodel.Thedevelopmentofcorrect

behaviourcanbestbeachievedwhenthereisclosecollaborationbetweenthehomeandtheschool.CooperativeDisciplineisbasedonassistingstudentstofeelconnected,contributingandcapable.Thereareavarietyofwaysinwhichwecandothisbothathomeandatschool.Youwillnotethatthisisaproactiveapproachtowardsstudentbehaviour.Seriousissues,suchasbullying,andspecificissues,suchasuniforminconsistencies,aredealtwithaspartofthisgreaterpolicyofensuringstudentsfeelthissenseofconnection,capableandcontributingmembersoftheschoolfamily.Eachstageofourproceduresincludessupportand/orconsequencesandeachcaseisconsideredwithinitscontext.Atalltimesanystaffmember,teachingorsupportstaff,willinvolvethemselvesimmediatelywhenissuesoccur.Wearecommittedtopayingcloseattentiontoourstudents’well-being.Onthewhole,ourstudentsareveryhappyandwellbehaved.Mostincidentsrequiringbehaviourmanagementgenerallyconsistofminorreportsfromstudentsinvolvingtheirfriends.Weworkwithstudentstoteachthemconflictresolutiontechniquesandtheimportanceoflisteningtoothersandrespectingtheirreasonablerequests.Wetakeallissuesbroughttoourattentionveryseriouslyanddealwiththeminthebestwaythathelpsallinvolved.Schoolisaplacewherestudentslearnmanyindividualandgroupsocialskills.Itisaplaceandtimeforthemtolearnwhatisandisnotappropriatebehaviour.Tobesthelpstudents,wealwaysworkwithparents,sowewillkeepyouinformedofanyconcerns,expectingsupportandfollow-upathomewhenseriousissuesarereported.Inthesamewayweaskthatparentsinformusofanyconcernsthattheirchildmayfeelmorecomfortablesharingathomesoweareempoweredtodealwiththeirsituationatschool.

A8 STUDENTUNIFORMSWestrictlyenforceouruniformpolicyandwillaskstudentstocallhomeiftheyarenotincompleteorneatuniforms(includingmissingparts,suchasthetie).Studentsareexpectedtoreporttoschoolinproperschooluniform.A8.1 SchoolUniformShouldalwaysbecompleteandneatinappearancewhilecomingtoschool,inschoolorreturninghome.• Changingbetweencasualwearanduniformisnotpermittedinthe

MS7.5.2IBDPFullDiplomaProgramme:StudentsfortheIBDPfulldiplomaprogrammemustsatisfyassessmentrequirementsinsixsubjectsandthecoreinatwo-yearprogrammeattheSchool.Thesixsubjectsmustbeselectedfromsixgroupsasdescribedintherelevanthandbookfortheexaminationsession,atleastthreeandnotmorethanfoursubjectstobetakenathigherlevelandtheothersatstandardlevel(SL).Recommendedteachingtimeis240hourstocompletehigherlevel(HL)coursesand150hourstocompletestandardlevelcourses.
Inadditiontothesixsubjects,studentsmustcompletethefollowingcorerequirements:
Takeacoursein,andcompletetherequiredassessmentin,TheoryofKnowledge(TOK),overthetwo-yearperiodoftheDiplomaProgramme.
