Planned activities for the future

1. Expanding of outreach program for “School kids Festival” (SPIE Outreach Grant). 2. Development of IRB Program (see 2010 chapter report):

− Officers rotation and brining active members into the Chapter management and sharing officers functions; − Officers list expansion to provide management positions for every active member; − Involving “lost in the woods” students and increasing number of students from

“indirect” optical departments. 3. “English speaking club”:

Establishing and development of “English speaking club” to increase the ability to speak English and to break the “language barrier” by: − Holding Friday English evenings; − Volunteer activity during international conferences holding in St. Petersburg (e.g.

OSAV'12, http://osav.spb.ru); − All OSC meetings with presentations and discussions in English; − Extra lessons on basic disciplines given by English-speaking University professors

for OSC members and all ITMO students; − Skype conferences with native speakers (students from English speaking SPIE

chapters); * Food support provided by OSC is aimed at increasing of number of attendants.

4. Holding of all-Chapter bimonthly meetings to: − discuss everything and anything about the chapter; − give the possibility to talk to any member (everybody has a voice and everybody is

heard); − solve all problems.

5. Combined meetings: Organizing of combined meetings: the idea is to attract more and more members to every meeting by combining very formal (boring) part with quite informal activity (fun part).

6. Make everyone speak! New members of OSC should make a small presentation about themselves and future involvement into OSC activity.

7. Alumni speakers: Inviting of an alumni SPIE chapter members to every meeting with his/her presentation about past activities, experience, life perspectives and also about the impact of former SPIE activity on his/her career.

8. Help in organization of “Optical Sensing and Artificial Vision (OSAV'2012)” meeting (http://osav.spb.ru).

9. “SPIE Student Chapter Overseas”: Establishing new overseas collaboration project with Univ. of Rochester SPIE Chapter, Stanford Univ. SPIE Chapter and Univ. of Arizona SPIE Chapter (on draft stage).
