The BA/MA Program

• Expectation to complete program in 5 consecutive years

• Candidates chosen for program during sophomore year at Hopkins

• Spend junior year taking relevant Hopkins courses and completing undergraduate requirements

• Receive BA after first year of graduate study (year four) and MA after the second year at SAIS (year five); all students may participate in May commencement activities, although students attending the HNC will have their undergraduate degree conferred in the summer following the fourth year of study.

• Participate in the same rigorous academic program; study with the same professors, interact on the same basis as everyone else with student body; fulfill same graduation requirements.

• Prior Chinese language proficiency required, most students have completed 3-4 years of undergraduate Chinese language study

• Student body of roughly 175 students, half Chinese and half International. Close-knit community fosters candid discussions of issues facing China and the world today

• Bologna is home to 80,000 students. Centrally located in Europe.

• Over half the SAIS Europe class is from the US, while the rest of the students come from over 40 different nationalities.

• Study and Career Treks to European cities including London, Geneva, Brussels, Amsterdam, Rome, Milan, Vienna and Sarajevo.

• Over 40 affiliate faculty travel to Bologna to teach; leading practitioners in their fields.

• Research Institutes include the Bologna Institute for Policy Research Seminar Series and the Center for Constitutional Studies and Democratic Development.

Direct Admission

• Direct admission into SAIS for graduating seniors • Admissions Requirements:

• Cumulative GPA of 3.33 • HNC Certificate and MAIS: Stamp Test (waive the test fee)• MIEF

• One semester of college calculus with a B or higher or AP Calculus AB or BC score of 4 or higher

• Statistics with a B or higher• Intermediate Microeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics

with a B or higher (calculus requirement waived if met this requirement at JHU)

• January 7, 2021 - Application Deadline• Application and matriculation (if admitted) fee will be waived

Junior Year / Semester Abroad Program

• Candidates selected to attend SAIS Europe campus in Bologna, Italy during junior year

• Not guaranteed admission to SAIS in the future, but if admitted will receive advanced standing for time spent in Bologna

• Flexibility in course selection. Credits will come back for international studies majors

• Housing is guaranteed
