    Subject: Personal and Social Education (PSE)

    Program during class teacher periods

    In the morning:

    Aims of PSE Program 1. To help students deal with difficult personal, social and global 2. Questions that arise in their lives; 3. To give students the knowledge, skills and understanding to play

    an effective role in society at local, national and international levels;

    4. To increase creative thinking; 5. To develop critical thinking skills; 6. To enhance students’ capacity for problem solving and decision 7. making in both the present and the future; 8. To develop students’ study skills, including discovering their 9. Own learning and personal study styles, effective time 10. Management as well learning the best way to prepare for exams.

    Subject: Philosophy and Religious Education

    Curriculum content Semester 1:

    Religious Texts and Sources of Authority, Founders and Leaders Semester 2:

    Worship and Celebration, Places of Worship and Pilgrimage. Homework and Assignments Homework will be set every two weeks. There will be an

    assignment for each topic, which will be handed in towards the end of each topic. The details of the homework and the assignments will be put on the VLE.

    Expectations of students To bring their workbook, a pen, pencil, rubber and glue stick to every lesson. To refer to the grade criteria every lesson, to ensure they are working to the best of their ability. To ensure that they have completed the work for every lesson. To be actively involved in lessons and to ask questions if they are unsure. To ask for extra support from the teacher if they feel they need it. This can be done during or after the lesson. Otherwise the teacher can also be found in the staff room. To complete homework on time.

    How parents can help

    Ensuring your child has their workbook for every lesson and a pen, pencil, rubber, ruler and glue stick. Checking the VLE and ensuring the students complete the homework, following the teacher’s guidelines and expectations. Contacting the teacher in charge of the class, if they feel their child is struggling with the subject. Alternatively if you have any concerns, please contact the teacher in charge, who is also the Head of Subject.

    Homework and Assignments

    A homework booklet has been distributed to students to specify all homework to be completed in the semester. There are a total of four written assignments to be completed. In addition, chapter quizzes and tests will be set to consolidate students’ learning.

    Expectations of students 1. All students are expected to bring the textbook and the lecture notes in every lesson, and to submit assignment punctually with sufficient effort made.

    2. Students are also encouraged to participate actively in class discussion and learning activities to forge independent thinking and critical thinking skills

    How parents can help

    1. Encourage children to develop a habit of newspaper reading to cultivate social awareness of contemporary issues

    2. Assist children with language proficiency and writing skills to express personal opinions and viewpoints in structured manner

    3. Supervise children’s studies before the examination. A revision syllabus will be distributed to students 2 weeks before the examination for study reference.

    Curriculum content 1. The whole of the Tricolore textbook will be covered, at the pace of roughly one unit per month.

    2. Regular exercises will be done in the Grammar in Action booklet, along with some handouts distributed in class.

    3. Monthly tests will be given at the end of each section. 4. Examinations covering the material so far will take place in

    January and in June.

    Homework and Assignments 1. Regular homework will be distributed at the end of the lessons (according to the homework timetable), to be handed in the following morning before 8.10am in Mr Gagnon’s pigeonhole next to the staff room.

    2. Self-learning tasks at home may be assigned after having covered some of the material in class (e.g Memrise.com).

    Homework and Assignments

    Homework is set three times a week according to the published homework timetable, for the following purposes: to practise, consolidate, complete or expand on work done in class; to prepare for future classwork; to provide opportunities for individual work and independent learning; to train students in planning and organizing their time; to encourage self-discipline and responsibility for learning; to provide evidence for the assessment of students’ progress and mastery of

    work. Form 3 students are expected to spend approximately 45 minutes on homework.

    Expectations of students Students are expected to be organized, meet homework deadlines and to participate in lessons with lots of enthusiasm, especially when contributing to class discussions! Three qualities are essential for success: hard work, a positive attitude and a willingness to persevere.

    How parents can help 1. Check the VLE for details about homework assignments and to read messages from teachers.

    2. Set aside a specific time each evening so that your daughter/son can concentrate on completing her/his homework.

    3. Please check that your child has completed the homework to the very best of her/his ability. Support your child in learning Mathematics and encourage her/him to seek extra help and as when necessary – during the lesson, recess, lunchtime or at Homework Club.

    Curriculum content Semester 1: 1. Population dynamics: changes of population in the world,

    factors affecting population growth, population structure and pyramids, population movement.

    2. Opportunities and risks – Understanding of cause and consequences of plate tectonics, major tectonic hazards and the ways people face these hazards.

    Semester 2: 1. Managing river and coastal environments – Understanding

    the work of river and waves by looking at different landform features

    2. Map reading – Revision of basic map reading skills (conventional signs, distance and scale, direction, cross-section and long profile, GIS, etc)

    The main resource is the textbook, IGCSE Geography (Hodder Education, by Guinness and Nagle) and Book 1 of Oxford Exploring Geography (Senior Secondary) but lessons will be supplemented with many other additional learning activities including groupwork and games, presentations and map reading.

    Homework and Assignments 1. All students are expected to be organized, meet homework deadlines and to bring all the things requested (textbook and workbook, an A-4 sized folder, the Geography exercise book and all stationery needed). They should also learn with a positive attitude – be cooperative and attentive.

    2. Please encourage your son/daughter to ask for extra help if necessary – during the lesson, recess, lunchtime and before / after school.

    3. Homework is assigned on a regular basis. Please encourage your son/daughter to complete their work and hand in on time.

    Curriculum content

    Students are required to take a written examination weighting 40% of their final grade. The questions relate to pre-released material and practical work based on three stimuli.

    Students will also produce three pieces of coursework weighting 60% of their final grade. One of these pieces is an individual performance of an extract based on a piece of repertoire. The other two performances are group pieces; one original devised piece and one performance of an extract from a piece of repertoire.

The aim of this project is to explore the theme of still life under the specific title ‘At the Table” utilising a wide range of media and techniques and referring to the work of other artists. Research and development from this starting point will result in a personal outcome in acrylic paint. Semester 2: The Basic Elements/ Organic Sculpture This two-part project generally focuses on the use of art as an expressive medium. In the first half of the project, students extend their drawing skills with experimental approaches and then independently explore the basic elements of all art – line, tone, shape, form, colour, pattern and texture. They do this by relating the elements to artists, media and techniques – each student interpreting their ideas individually.In the second half, the students build upon their knowledge of sculpture by looking at abstract interpretations of nature in the twentieth century. They record natural objects from observation and secondary resources and develop these by drawing and using maquettes into sculptural outcomes, emphasising abstract qualities of shape and form.
