My self• From Hanoi, Vietnam• Junior mechanical

engineering student at GVSU• Math, and Physics tutor• Engineering Laboratory and

Teaching Assistant

What I’ve done• Kanban systems for repair part• TS certification

• Curt connector assembly• Eliminated rework

• Durango Assembly cell (Still in process)• Improved the stamping and assembly process at EBWE

• U540 Assembly Flex Press station 2 and 3• Automated assembly process

• Other small project and assignment

Kanban system

• Goal:• For TS certification• To eliminate ordering process for purchasing and tech

• Description:• Identified all the repair components• Entered information in Plex• Implemented Kanban card system for part reorder

Curt fixture

• Goal• Eliminated rework• Saved money

• What I completed• Time study• Developed a process to improve process quality• Worked with Garland Service Company in Texas on

fixture to hold connector in place when soldering.• Plan to run new fixture in selective solder

Page 7: Summer 2016 presentation

Durango Assembly• Goals: • Improved Stamping• Improved Assembly

Process at EBW Electronics

• Description:• Work with operator

on issues. • Get FPY data from

checksum tester from May to August

Durango Assembly (cont)

• Description• Worked with Chris in inspection and assembly

fixture purchasing from QMA• Sent part out to Dynamics for CMM Inspection

and Analyze the data• Visited Agritek to observe their process of making

Durango heat-sink• Tested Voltage across each LED in 600 Flex Board

Sample

U540 Flex Press• Goals• Automated the assembly process

• Description• Built the vacuum system and

mounted under the Flex Press• Tested the nest for manufacturability• Identified problem with fixture,

heatsink, and flex board. • Sent out the flex outboard for CMM

inspection• Developed assembly process and

train operators

Other Small Project• Time Study and Man Power Analysis• Muth area, Curt area, P552, P558, P4, P6, router, compass tester,

C346 tester, Juno P/N: 13820• P552 packaging Analysis• Analyze whether the change in connector’s location affects the

packaging and design of plastic tray• Provide dimensional data for Carton, Box, and Partition • Making excel file including Item number, dimension, supplier,

type, cost of each kind of carton, box, and partition• Making a glue gun holder in Curt area• Tape the yellow line in factory floor

Page 11: Summer 2016 presentation

What I’ve learned• PCB assembly operation• Process of making a PCB: SMT, AOI,

Routing, Conformal Coat, Selective Solder, Testing, stamping

• Doing business with another company

• Hands-on Experience• Learn how to use a lot of tool• Assembly vacuum nest for U540• Maintenance

Page 12: Summer 2016 presentation

Things Gone Right• I have opportunity to involved in important project• U540, Curt, Durango, Kanban system

• Learn new skills and experience• Hands-on, power tools, packaging, shipping, working with other

company• Opportunity to do responsible and challenging work related to

my major• Family-like atmosphere• Nice and clean working environment

Things Gone Wrong• Durango Assembly• This is long project, I learned a lot when I involved in this project.

However, I regret that I have to come back school too soon, so that I am not able continue working on this project.
