Martin StephensonLeader/songwriter with the Daintees, Martin’s musical education came from Ray Manzerac’s piano in The Doors, Jim Morrison and Patti Smith, John Cooper Clarke and Jonathan Richman. These were the foundation of Stephenson’s eclectic music education, paid for not by the state, but by busking to escape the Workhouse. Martin evolved into an unusual songwriter in the early 80’s, writing idiosyncratic flavours way beyond his years. Making his name more as a strong performer and anti-industry bard, relating more to outsiders than the fame hungry.Releasing four critically acclaimed albums between the years 85/92, he continues to plough his own furrow living in the Highlands of Scotland, releasing over 20 albums and performing concerts throughout the UK.www.daintees.com

Canto - the Last Flying Chance in the NorthPresented by 6 & half flying circus6 & half flyers, a storm and a chameleon flying rig which seems to have a mind of its own: the performance is set in a storybook cityscape of once-grand structures ticking away in perpetual turmoil. We follow the antics of the characters grappling with their distinctive obsessions and desires. Devised and directed by Firenza Guidi and boasting a lavish original soundtrack and fragmentary dialogue in several languages, Canto fuses highly skilled circus with physical and image theatre to create a world which is both urban and rural, old and contemporary: a funny, nostalgic, moving and altogether breathtaking experience.Produced by Kadja Karjalainen Devised and Directed by Firenza GuidiOriginal Music by Gareth Jones and Chris Hillswww.duoarctique.com

St David’s FoundationSt David’s Foundation has been providing a ‘hospice at home service’ in Newport, Torfaen, Caerphilly and Monmouthshire for 30 years. Last year they cared for over 2,800 patients facing a life-threatening illness, along with providing continued support for their families and carers.

At any one time their nurses are caring for around 960 patients. The service is provided free-of-charge to the patients and families but costs the organisation £5 million per year to run, and they have to rely on 80% of funds to come through voluntary donations. St David’s Foundation would not be able to maintain these vital services without the help of the local community, therefore your support is greatly appreciated. www.stdavidsfoundation.co.uk

Steve WilliamsStand-Up Story ManAs seen on ‘Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow’ and as support to Lee Mack, trail blazing whimsical Welshman Steve Williams (from Newport) hits the road with his debut national stand-up comedy tour. Following two sold out shows at The Riverfront and after contributing to the latest series of ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’ (BBC3), the Chortle Award nominee will deliver some serious folly with his latest mix of stand-up tales and stand out comedy. Steve never fails to surprise and engage audiences with his hybrid of bizarre stories, larger than life physicality, spontaneous improvisation and skewered view of everyday life.

“If you like your stand-up as slick as an oil spill, then Mr. Williams is set to present another polished performance.” The List“A rising star of the circuit. A safe place to deposit your comedy pound.” The Sunday Times“Williams is a natural storyteller.’” The Scotsman“Williams is innovative. Go see.” Chortle
