A Letter from the LTGHello!

The summer is already half way over, but the fun isn’t over yet! It may seem depressing to think that school starts in just one more month (or a bit longer..). However, look on the bright side! The terrible monster that eats away at our social lives and sleep that is school also provides us with many outlets to serve, fuels us with our membership, and allows us to more effectively reach out to the students and the community. This is when the real test begins for all of the officers reading this. Membership growth, membership retention, publicity, making meetings interesting, it’s never too early to start planning for your meetings during the school year. It’s important to be proactive and plan ahead, that way, you can get more sleep during the school year while you’re scurrying around doing SATs, AP classes, and who knows what else. Enjoy your last few weeks of summer, chill out, save the world, and bring smiles to people you see! I love you all.

Love, Jeffrey

Messagefrom the EditorHiii everyone!

July! The perfect time for barbeques and fireworks!

Summer’s almost ending (that fast noooo!), so it’s now time to make the most of it with fun activities planned this month. There’s lots of social events planned, like the beach clean-up at Santa Monica where you can meet people from Division 10 South. YAYAY people bonding how fun.

D10 SIBLINGS: LTG Jeffrey Xiong is shown

here with Division 10 South’s LTG Kelly Lau

at DCON. How cute!

NOT CRAZY: Editor Christine Situ felt the need

to put in a photo of herself so people won’t have

to wonder who this weird chick is. She’s on top

of a pile of boxes (perfectly normal behavior).

I present to you, the third issue of Turtle Times! As you can see, there’s more content now that people are submitting things (thank you!) My favorites are the first tale account of the Pasadena Chalk Festival and the lovely artwork done by Diana Liu and Annie Lu.

Have a nice day!

Love, Christine

Children’s Tumor WalkSan Marino Key Clubbers took a couple hours

off on June 3rd at an awareness walk to support the Children’s Tumor Foundation, an organiation dedicated to helping children suffering from neurofibromatosis, a disease that causes tumors in the skin and bones of children and infants.

Members strolled around the CBS Studio Center at Studio City, meeting dozens of actors and celebrity status figures, such as storm troopers and Lakers girls, who were also there supporting the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

The walk offered a number of activities as well, like a raffle drawing, to help raise money for the foundation. As hard to win as raffles are, San Marino Key Club’s Billy Chai managed to take home a gift basket he won from a raffle. The gift basket was filled with the TV show Pretty Little Liars items such as tshirts and the season set. Luckily for Billy, PLL was one of his favorite shows.

The support walk was a fun and spirited way to spread awareness of neurofibromatosis and support the children suffering from it.

Pasadena Chalk Art FestivalThe Pasadena Chalk Art Festival was pretty fun! I met a lot of

people, but mainly from Marshall. It was a pretty big event so they needed many volunteers. Thankfully we were there to help! There were many Key Clubbers along with other volunteers from various different school programs. We played ice breakers when we were waiting to be assigned jobs. I was glad to meet more people from different schools. We’re keeping in touch now!

Aside from meeting many people, helping was pretty fun. In the morning there wasn’t much to do other than set up a few things like tables and tablecloths. Later in the day we helped the artists with giving them new chalk and placing hand wash stations for them. We got to greet a few of the many amazing artists that were there. The artwork was absolutely beautiful! I’m so glad we were able to help out.
