Dathliad Tê Hufen Roedd yn bleser gan Ganolfan Gwirfoddoli CAVO wahodd pawb sy’n gwirfoddoli yng Ngheredigion i Ddathliad Te Hufen a gynhaliwyd yn Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol Llanerchaeron dydd Sadwrn 14 Gorffennaf. Bu’r digwyddiad yn llwyddiant braf, gyda 68 o wahoddedigion yn bresennol. Agorwyd y digwyddiad gan John Jones, Ymddiriedolwr CAVO gyda rhai geiriau i brocio’r meddwl am gyfraniad y sector gwirfoddol i gymuned Ceredigion. Cyflwynwyd dystysgrifau gwirfoddolwr y Mileniwm i Faye Parrington i gydnabod ei chyfraniad i’r sector gwirfoddol gyda thystysgrif 50 awr, 100 awr a 200 awr. Roedd y gwesteion yn gallu mwynhau Tŷ’r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol a’r tir sy’n cynnwys fferm a gardd, drwy garedigrwydd Llanerchaeron. Hoffai Canolfan Gwirfoddoli Ceredigion estyn diolch i Llanerchaeron am eu cefnogaeth. Cafodd te hufen hyfryd ei baratoi gan Gareth Richards a’i fwynhau gan y gwesteion. Llawer o ddiolch i bawb oedd yn gallu ymuno â CAVO ar y diwrnod ac rydym yn gobeithio eich bod wedi mwynhau’r digwyddiad.

Gwirfoddoli Siartr Cymru

Caiff Gwirfoddolwyr Ifainc yng Nghymru gyfle i lunio perthnasau cadarnhaol; creu cydlyniant cymunedol a datblygu sgiliau newydd gaiff eu cydnabod, eu gwerthfawrogi a’u trosglwyddo i bob agwedd o’u bywyd; heddiw ac yn y dyfodol. Ein nod yw i gynnal, hyrwyddo ac annog Gwirfoddoli yng Nghymru mewn modd holistig. Gellir cyflawni hyn trwy ddarparu amgylchedd proffesiynol, cyfeillgar a diogel ar gyfer Gwirfoddolwyr yng Nghymru, sy’n rhoi eu hamser mewn modd cadarnhaol ac adeiladol er budd eraill. Sut allwn ni gyflawni hyn? Gall Gwirfoddolwyr Ifainc:

Gefnogi eu cymunedau trwy brosiectau rheolaidd ac atgyfnerthu cydlyniant cymunedol trwy anelu i gynnwys grŵp

amrywiol o bobl ifainc. Datblygu eu sgiliau a chynnig cyfraniadau cadarnhaol i fudiadau a busnesau; bydd gwirfoddolwyr

ifainc yn eu helpu i dyfu’n barhaus ac i ddarparu gwell gwasanaeth. Dynodi cyfleoedd cefnogaeth, hyfforddiant ac ymchwil er mwyn sicrhau cynnydd. Hyrwyddo gwirfoddoli’n effeithlon trwy ‘wneud’ a gwneud cyfraniad gweladwy trwy godi arian ar gyfer

elusennau; cynnal gweithdai a hyrwyddo digwyddiadau. Gall mudiadau a chyflogwyr:

Ddarparu hyfforddiant a helpu i ddatblygu sgiliau gwaith fel cyfathrebu, TG a gweithio gyda chydweithwyr o wahanol gefndiroedd, allai arwain at gyfleoedd eraill a / neu waith.

Ymdrin â gwirfoddolwyr ifainc â thegwch a pharch ochr yn ochr ag aelodau cyflogedig o staff. Darparu cefnogaeth personol a chefnogaeth â ffocws perthnasol i waith trwy gyfarfodydd a sesiynau un-i-un; cymorth ariannol i deithio a chostau bwyd. Cydnabod ymrwymiad ac ymroddiad gwirfoddolwyr ifainc er mwyn sicrhau ysgogiad a brwdfrydedd; a

gyflawnir trwy wobrau gan ddarparwyr gwirfoddoli a chymwysterau bywyd trwy hyfforddiant yn y gwaith.

Cydnabod buddiannau i fudiadau neu i’r gweithle o ganlyniad i gyfraniadau gwirfoddolwyr ifainc. Mae gan wirfoddolwyr ifainc y gallu i greu a datblygu dyfodol economi Cymru gyda ffynhonnell dibynadwy o wybodaeth, dealltwriaeth, sgiliau a phrofiad. Gall cymunedau ar draws Cymru sicrhau buddiannau cynaliadwy uniongyrchol a thymor hir o ganlyniad i gyfraniadau a gweithgarwch y bobl

Cafodd Panel Grantiau Dan Arweiniad Pobl Ifanc CAVO ‘Dish the Dosh’ gyfarfod lwyddiannus yn yr un modd â ‘Dragon’s Den’ Dydd Iau 26 Gorffennaf yn Aberaeron. Gwahoddwyd ymgeiswyr o rownd gyntaf Cynllun Grantiau Dan Arweiniad Pobl Ifanc GwirVol i ddod i’r cyfarfod ‘Dragon’s Den’ i werthu eu prosiect i ‘Dish the Dosh.’ Mae ‘Dish the Dosh’ yn cynnwys gwirfoddolwyr ifanc 14 i 25 oed o bob rhan o Geredigion. Mae aelodau’r panel wedi’u hyfforddi a’u goruchwylio gan Catherine Moyle Cynghorwr Gwirfoddoli Ieuenctid CAVO. Eglurodd Catherine ymagwedd y ‘Dragon’s Den’, “Rhaid i’r grwpiau sy’n ceisio am arian grant gwblhau ffurflen gais yn y lle cyntaf. Bydd aelodau’r panel yn darllen y ffurflenni cais ac yna’n gwahodd y grwpiau i mewn i’r ‘Den’ i gyflwyno eu syniadau am brosiect. Ar ôl y cyflwyniad roedd yn rhaid i’r Ymgeiswyr ddal eu tir yn ystod sesiwn 10 munud o holi ac ateb pan oedd aelodau’r panel ieuenctid yn holi am bob elfen o bob prosiect , o gyllidebau i gynaladwyedd.” Ymhlith yr ymgeiswyr llwyddiannus o’r cyfarfod ‘Dragon’s Den’ oedd Clwb Ieuenctid Bont am eu dyluniadau o’r trac Pwmp BMX a’r prosiect gwirfoddoli amgylcheddol, Urdd y Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Aberystwyth am eu gwelyau er mwyn i wirfoddolwyr blannu a thyfu llysiau a grŵp od dawnswyr ifanc o Aberystwyth ( a addysgir gan Break, Rock a Rose) sy’n dymuno gwirfoddoli i gynnal sioe ar gyfer y gymuned leol. Mae yna arian ar ôl yn y pot Grantiau Dan Arweiniad Pobl Ifanc bydd yr ail rownd o’r Grantiau Dan Arweiniad Pobl Ifanc yn agor yn fuan am ceisiadau sy’n ddyledus ym mis Hydref 2012 amser bydd y panel ‘Dish the Dosh’ yn cyfarfodi un waith eto am ail cyfarfod ‘Dragon’s Den’.

Ers 2009 mae dros £300,000 o gyllid Ewropeaidd wedi’i fuddsoddi mewn mudiadau yng

Ngheredigion drwy

brosiectau Porth Ymgysylltu i ddarparu hyfforddiant a chefnogaeth i bobl sydd allan o waith yng

Ngheredigion.

Mae cyllid o Ewrop a Llywodraeth Cymru yn darparu llwybr i gyflogaeth i bobl sydd allan o waith yng Ngheredigion Bu prosiect Porth Ymgysylltu, sy’n cael ei reoli gan Gyngor Gweithredu Gwirfoddol Cymru (CGGC) yn buddsoddi mewn mudiadau yn y sir i ddarparu hyfforddiant a chefnogaeth i ystod o bobl sy’n ei chael yn anodd dychwelyd i waith. Trefnodd Pobl yn Gyntaf, sy’n gweithio gyda phobl ag anawsterau dysgu ar eiriolaeth cyfoedion a gweinyddu, un prosiect Porth Ymgysylltu. Dywedodd Nick Martin a fynychodd CPF “Rwy’n mynd i sefyll fel Cynrychiolydd Cyngor Cenedlaethol ar gyfer Ceredigion i Bobl yn Gyntaf Cymru ac mae gennyf yr hyder i ddechrau edrych am waith cyflogedig.” Mae wedi ennill sgiliau arwain, cyfoeth o ddealltwriaeth o egwyddorion eiriolaeth a sut mae’r rhain yn gweithio yn ymarferol, yn ogystal â dealltwriaeth lwyr o’r profiad o anallu i bobl lai annibynnol, a strategaethau i oresgyn y rhain. Mae Nick yn teimlo bod ei ran yn y prosiect wedi dod allan â’i sgiliau arwain, gan ei fod wedi ei ddewis yn arweinydd o fewn y grŵp gan y rhai eraill oedd yn cymryd rhan. Esboniodd Nick y byddai’n hoffi parhau â’r Prosiect Eiriolaeth Cymheiriaid os yn bosibl a phasio ymlaen y wybodaeth a’r profiad y mae wedi ennill, gan ddweud bod ‘Pobl yn Gyntaf’ yn fudiad gwych.’ Datblygwyd prosiect arall gan Ardal 43 “Prosiect Ieuenctid Aberteifi” ar gyfer pobl ifanc i ddatblygu llwybr blaenllaw i ddyfodol mwy cadarnhaol. Cymerodd Marianne Ashling ran yn y gweithgaredd Sgiliau Bywyd ac mae wedi ennill gwaith rhan amser fel derbynnydd mewn swyddfa cyfreithiwr ac yn teimlo ei bod wedi magu hyder o ganlyniad i’r prosiect ac maen fwy positif ynghylch ei sgiliau. Mae Marianne nawr yn gobeithio dod o hyd i waith llawn amser fel ysgrifenyddes gyfreithiol a chwblhau cwrs Brifysgol Agored. Dywedodd Skye Heneka, mam ifanc a oedd hefyd yn cymryd rhan ym mhrosiect Area 43 ei bod wedi magu rhagor o hyder ac agwedd mwy positif. Mae Skye nawr yn gobeithio dychwelyd i addysg brif ffrwd unwaith y bydd ei baban yn ddigon hen. Prosiectau eraill yng Ngheredigion oedd: Tir Coed Branching Out/Prosiect Egin wedi cyflwyno hyfforddiant achrededig mewn rheolaeth coetiroedd a chefn gwlad, yn ogystal â thechnegau gwaith coed gwyrdd traddodiadol, i ddatblygu sgiliau personol, cymdeithasol a galwedigaethol pobl ifanc 16 i 25 oed. Roedd gan Theatr Byd Bychan ddau brosiect, Prosiect Parc Sglefrio am y cynllun ar gyfer ‘mainc malu’ i Barc Sglefrio Aberteifi a Phrosiect Corlan, prosiect ymarferol sy’n canolbwyntio ar dasgau creadigol pleserus ar gyfer y rhai â chyflwr iechyd sy’n amharu ar eu gallu i weithio. Cymorth i Fenywod Aberteifi, y rhaglen Rhyddid yn cynyddu hunan-hyder, ymwybyddiaeth, cymhelliant a gwybodaeth am gyfleoedd. Canolfan Cyngor ar bopeth, profiad gwaith ymarferol a sgiliau cyflogaeth ymarferol, drwy ddatblygu prosiectau yn y gymuned. Darparwyd gwybodaeth a chyngor ar gyfleoedd gwirfoddoli ac ymgysylltu â’r gymuned i’r rhai sy’n gymwys dan Porth Ymgysylltu gan Ymgynghorwyr Canolfan Gwirfoddoli CAVO. Rik Mowbray

As Project Manager and having had over 10 years’ experience with the organisation I can honestly say this has been one of the most positive and productive projects I have been involved with.

Personally the greatest satisfaction was to stand in the park after the completed installation and listen to the response from the young

children playing and interacting with the various pieces, particularly groups sitting on the giant settee with others acting out television shows on the mock TV set, a

refreshing change from the screen dominated culture our Young people find themselves immersed in at present.

Art in the Park project-Ieuenctid

Tysul Youth June 2012

The project was first initiated in response to the park play area in Llandysul becoming very run down with many of the bench seats vandalised or deteriorated and the area looking generally uncared for. Young people within the community felt that if they were to design and create new seating and decorative plaques to install that it would help to build a sense of ownership and pride amongst the youth and hopefully deter further acts of vandalism in the future. With the assistance of community artist Mark Folds and youth workers at I.T.Y. the members began to develop ideas and designs for new improved seating and hand carved decora-tive plaques to be mounted on the perime-ter fence. Approval was sought from the parks committee and the community council and it was agreed that the project was very worthwhile and should be taken forward. After successfully securing a grant from CAVO YOUTH LED GRANT SCHEME and the Skiathos fund we were able to actualise the

young people’s designs, materials were sourced and work begun with carving sessions held at the Tysul Youth centre and at Llandysul Scouts head-quarters with other community and youth groups and individuals invited to take part to ensure that a good representation of the whole community were Involved. To promote better community cohesion and cross generational relationships. To engender a sense of community and ownership amongst young people locally. To demonstrate the positive contribution young people can make to their environment. To promote volunteering and participation particularly amongst marginalised groups or those with special needs, learning difficulties or low self-esteem. To transfer skills, co-operation and To reduce acts of vandalism and antisocial behaviour. To enhance the local environment. A seven foot button backed settee with additional mock TV set, a giant foot, a fish and a river bench together with 50

The plaques depict scenes of the local area, activities and general images or symbols that were of importance to the participants and were hand carved using carving chisels and mallets. In total 63 young people aged 10-25 took part in the project during which they learnt new skills, team work and safe working practices. Most experienced a great sense of achievement and increased confidence together with a feeling of pride and ownership and feedback has been very positive from both participants and members of the community.

Allwch chi ddanfon eich gwirfoddolwyr fan hyn, hyn a hyn, erbyn fory? Dydan ni ddim yn cadw carfan o wirfoddowyr yn y seler, nac yn y cwtch dan stâr. Rydan ni’n gwybod lle mae’r gwirfoddolwyr,

a pha fudiadau all ymhél eu lluoedd ynghyd pan fo’r galw. Ond yr un yw’r alwad bob tro mae argyfwng yn taro, neu’r tywydd yn troi, neu mae angen llenwi bwlch – ‘dan ni moyn eich gwirfoddolwyr, nawr.

Gwirfoddolwyr CAVO yn barod i dderbyn yr alwad.

Yn dilyn y llifogydd yn ardal Aberystwyth a Borth, gofynwyd i CAVO i sefydlu canolfan i dderbyn a dosbarthu celfi, offer tŷ, llestri a phob dim anghenrheidiol. Llifodd dodrefn, offer coginio, llestri ag ati fewn i’r ganolfan ar stad Glanyrafon, a threfnwyd y dosbarthiad gan CAVO. Ail-drefnodd Trafnidiaeth Ystwyth hynt y gwasanaeth Bws Bro i gynwys lleoliad dros dro Meddygfa Ystwyth yn Bow Street. Gweithiodd y cyfan yn hwylus unwaith roedd pawb yn deall y drefn. Defnyddiwyd gyrwyr gwirfoddol lle roedd eu hangen; aeth y bysus a’r nwyddau a’r bobl i’r lleoedd priodol; a defnyddiwyd yr adnoddau’n effeithiol.

Rydan ni wedi dod i’r canlyniad bod angen cronfa o yrwyr gwirfoddol. Mae’r syniad wedi egino a datblygu dros y blynyddoedd, ac rydan ni wedi cyrraedd y man lle mae’r syniad yn dwyn ffrwyth. Rydym yn creu cronfa data o’r gyrwyr gwirfoddol a’r holl bysus bach sydd ar gael yn y Drydydd Sector yng Ngheredigion – trwy’r Cynlluniau Cludiant Cymunedol a mudiadau elusennol. Bydd hyn yn ateb rhai o’r gofynnion, a bydd yn adnodd defnyddiol

i gysylltu gyrwyr a’r bysus mini sydd ar gael

i ddosbarthu cludiant mewn ardaloedd anghysbell

i weld lle mae llai neu ddim cludiant ar gael

Byddwn yn gofyn am fanylion ein gyrwyr gwirfoddol. Byddwn yn gofyn os ydynt eisiau gyrru ar ran mudiadau gwahanol, ac os ydynt yn fodlon i ni rannu eu manylion gyda’r mudiadau yma. Bydd hyn i gyd yn wirfoddol, ac rydan ni’n gobeithio cynnig mwy o gyfleoedd gwirfoddoli i’r gyrwyr yn eu cymunedau. Rydan ni’n disgwyl ar Gludiant Cymunedol i fod yn fwy effeithiol trwy:

leihau’r milltiroedd diangen

sefydlu safonnau o ddefnyddio bysus mini

gwneud mwy o ddefnydd o fysus CC a mudiadau elusennol

rhoi mwy o gyfleoedd gwirfoddoli i’n gyrwyr gwirfoddol

darparu mwy o deithiau i’r defnyddwyr

llenwi bylchau trwy recriwtio mwy o yrwyr gwirfoddol

Prosiect Gwirfoddoli'r Loteri FAWR Mae Canolfan Gwirfoddoli CAVO yn cefnogi gwirfoddoli fel ymarfer cynhwysol yn agored i bob unigolyn. Celebration Cream Tea

CAVO Volunteer Centre was delighted to invite all who volunteer

in Ceredigion to a celebration cream tea held at Llanerchaeron

National Trust property on Saturday 14th July. The event was a

sunny success with a total of 68 guests attending

John Jones, CAVO Trustee opened the event with some thought

provoking words on the contribution of the

voluntary sector to Ceredigion’s community. Fay Parrington was presented with her Millennium volunteer

certificates t0 acknowledge her contribution to the voluntary sector with a 50 hour, 100 hour and 200 hour

certificate.

Guests were able to enjoy the National Trust House and grounds which includes a working farm and

garden,

courtesy of Llanerchaeron. CAVO Volunteer Centre wishes to extend their thanks to Llanerchaeron for

their support.

A delightful cream tea was prepared by Gareth Richards and enjoyed by the guests. Many thanks to all

who were able to join CAVO on the day and we hope very much that you enjoyed the event.

Volunteering Charter for Wales

Young Volunteers in Wales have the opportunity to engage in positive relationships; create community cohesion and develop new

skills that are recognised, valued and transferred into all

areas of their lives; today and in the future.

Our aim is to holistically sustain, promote and encourage Volunteering in Wales. This can be achieved by providing a

professional, friendly and safe environment for Volunteers in Wales, who give their time positively and constructively for the

benefit of others.

How can we achieve this?

Young volunteers can:

Support their communities through regular projects and strengthen community cohesion by seeking to involve a diverse group

of young people.

Develop their skills and provide positive contributions to organisations & businesses young volunteers will help them

constantly grow to provide better services.

Identify support, training and research opportunities to ensure progression.

Promote volunteering efficiently by ‘doing’ and making a visible contribution to raising money for charity; running

workshops and promoting events.

Organisations and employers can:

Provide training and help develop work skills such as communication, IT and working with colleagues from different

backgrounds which may lead to other opportunities and/or employment.

Afford young volunteers with fairness and respect alongside paid members of staff.

Provide focussed personal and work-related support through meetings and one-to-one sessions; financial assistance in travel

and food expenses.

Acknowledge and recognise the commitment given by the young volunteers to ensure motivation and enthusiasm; achieved via

awards from volunteering providers and life qualifications through on the job training.

Recognise the benefits to the organisation or workplace from the contributions of young volunteers.

Young volunteers have the ability to create and develop the future of the economy in Wales with a reliable source of knowledge,

understanding; skills & experience. Communities across Wales can realise immediate and longer term,

sustainable benefits from the contributions and involvement from their young people

CAVO’s Youth Led Grant Panel ‘Dish the Dosh’ had a successful Dragon’s Den style meeting on Thursday 26th July in Aberaeron. Applicants from the first round of the Gwirvol Youth Led Grants Scheme were invited to come along to the Dragon’s Den style meeting to sell their project to ‘Dish the Dosh’. Dish the Dosh’ is made up of young volunteers aged 14-25 from all over Ceredigion. The panel members are trained and overseen by CAVO’s Youth Volunteering Adviser Catherine Moyle. Catherine explained the Dragon’s Den approach “the groups applying for the grant money had to complete an application form in the first instance. The panel members read the application forms then invited the groups into the den to pitch their project ideas. Once the pitch was done, the applicants then had to hold their nerve during a 10 minute question and answer session, where the youth panel Members questioned all elements of each project from budgets to sustainability.” Among the applicants from the Dragon’s Den style meeting were Bont Youth Club with their BMX Pump track designs and environmental volunteer project, Aberystwyth University Guild of Students with their raised beds for volunteers to plant and grow vegetables and a group of young dancers from Aberystwyth (taught by Break, Rock and Rose) who wish to volunteer to put on a show for the local community. There is still money left in the Youth Led Grants pot so the second round of the Youth Led Grants will open shortly for applications due in October 2012 when the panel ‘Dish the Dosh’ will meet once again for a second Dragon’s Den style meeting.

Since 2009, over £300,000 of European funding has been invested in Ceredigion-based

organisations

Through the Engagement Gateway project to provide training and support to

out-of-work people in the county

Funding from Europe and the Welsh Government is providing a pathway to employment for out-of-work people in Ceredigion. The Engagement Gateway project, which is managed by Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) has been investing in organisations in the county to provide training and support to a range of people that are finding it difficult to get back into work. Ceredigion Peoples First, who are working with people with learning difficulties on peer advocacy and administration, ran one Engagement Gateway project. Nick Martin who attended CPF said “I am going to stand as The National Council Representative for Ceredigion for All Wales People First and have confidence to begin to look for paid work.” He has gained leadership skills, a wealth of understanding of advocacy principles and how these work in practice, alongside a profound insight into the experience of disempowerment for less independent people and strategies for overcoming these. Nick feels his involvement in the Project has brought out his leadership skills, as he has been identified as a clear leader within the group by other participants. Nick explained that he would like to continue with the Peer Advocacy Project if possible and pass on the knowledge and experience he has gained, stating that “People First is an amazing organisation” Another project Area 43 ‘Cardigan Youth Project’ engaged young people in developing a progressive pathway to a more positive future. Marianne Ashling took part in the Life Skills activity and has gained part-time employment at a solicitor’s office as a receptionist and feels that as a result of support from the project she has developed more confidence and is more positive about her skills. Marianne now hopes to find full time employment as a legal secretary and complete an Open University course Skye Heneka, a young mother who also a participant of the Area 43 project, said “she has gained more confidence and positive attitude, Skye now hopes to return to mainstream education once her baby is old enough Other Projects in Ceredigion were: Tir Coed Branching Out/Egin Project delivered accredited training in woodland and countryside management, as well as traditional green woodwork techniques, to develop the personal, social and vocational skills of young people, aged 16-25 Small World Theatre had two projects, Skate Park project about the design for a ‘grinding bench’ for the Cardigan Skate Park and Corlan Project a practical project centred on enjoyable creative tasks for those with work limiting health conditions Cardigan Women’s Aid, the Freedom programme increases self-confidence; awareness; motivation and knowledge of opportunities Citizens Advice Bureau, practical work experience and practical employment skills, via the development of community based projects CAVO Volunteer Centre Advisors provided information and advice on volunteering opportunities and community engagement to those eligible under Engagement Gateway. As Project Manager and having had over 10 years’ experience with the organisation I can honestly say this has been one of the most positive and productive projects I have been involved with.

Personally the greatest satisfaction was to stand in the park after the completed installation and listen to the response from the young

children playing and interacting with the various pieces, particularly groups sitting on the giant settee with others acting out television shows on the mock TV set, a

refreshing change from the screen dominated culture our Young people find themselves immersed in at present.

Art in the Park project-Ieuenctid

Tysul Youth June 2012

The project was first initiated in response to the park play area in Llandysul becoming very run down with many of the bench seats vandalised or deteriorated and the area looking generally uncared for. Young people within the community felt that if they were to design and create new seating and decorative plaques to install that it would help to build a sense of ownership and pride amongst the youth and hopefully deter further acts of vandalism in the future. With the assistance of community artist Mark Folds and youth workers at I.T.Y. the members began to develop ideas and designs for new improved seating and hand carved decora-tive plaques to be mounted on the perime-ter fence. Approval was sought from the parks committee and the community council and it was agreed that the project was very worthwhile and should be taken forward. After successfully securing a grant from CAVO YOUTH LED GRANT SCHEME and the Skiathos fund we were able to actualise the

young people’s designs, materials were sourced and work begun with carving sessions held at the Tysul Youth centre and at Llandysul Scouts head-quarters with other community and youth groups and individuals invited to take part to ensure that a good representation of the whole community were Involved. To promote better community cohesion and cross generational relationships. To engender a sense of community and ownership amongst young people locally. To demonstrate the positive contribution young people can make to their environment. To promote volunteering and participation particularly amongst marginalised groups or those with special needs, learning difficulties or low self-esteem. To transfer skills, co-operation and To reduce acts of vandalism and antisocial behaviour. To enhance the local environment. A seven foot button backed settee with additional mock TV set, a giant foot, a fish and a river bench together with 50 Individual 18”

decorative plaques. The plaques depict scenes of the local area, activities and general images or symbols that were of importance to the participants and were hand carved using carving chisels and mallets. In total 63 young people aged 10-25 took part in the project during which they learnt new skills, team work and safe working practices. Most experienced a great sense of achievement and increased confidence together with a feeling of pride and ownership and feedback has been very positive from both participants and members of the community.

Community Transport and Volunteer Drivers

Another crisis, another phone call to CAVO. Can you organise the collection and delivery of the donations? Can you get people to and from

the surgery? Can you get your volunteers out to here, here and here, by tomorrow. CAVO does not have volunteers hidden in the cellar, or

waiting in the attic for the call up. Yes, we know where there are volunteers, and which organisations could muster their forces in a crisis.

Yet, the same call comes through everytime there is a flood, adverse weather, or a need for someone to plug the gap – give us your

volunteers.

In the aftermath of the floods in Aberystwyth and Borth, CAVO was asked to set up a collection and delivery of household goods. Furniture,

bedding, cooking utensils and crockery were delivered to Glanyrafon, and CAVO organised the allocation of the donations. Ystwyth

Transport reorganised their Bws Bro route to include the temporarY re-location of Ystwyth Surgery to Bow Street. The operation worked

well, once everyone knew what was needed and what was expected. Volunteer drivers were dispatched to where they were needed;

minibuses took goods and people where they were needed; and everyone’s time and resources were used efficiently.

Over the years we have come to the realisation that there is a need for a pool of volunteer drivers. This idea has grown and developed, and

we are now in the process of building a database. This will be linked into a database of all the minibuses that can be hired from the

Community Transport schemes and charitable organisations in Ceredigion. This is not the whole solution of the issue, but it will be an useful

resource for

matching drivers to minibuses;

allocating transport in more isolated areas;

seeing where there is a lack of transport provision.

We shall be asking all our volunteer drivers for their details. Everyone will be asked if they are willing to drive for other organisations, and

can we share their details with these organisations. This will all be done on a voluntary footing, but we do hope to provide our volunteer

drivers with more opportunities to volunteer and help in their communities. We’re looking to make Community Transport more efficient by:

lessening the ‘dead mileage’

setting a standard code for using minibuses

making more use of CT and charitable organisation minibuses

giving our volunteer drivers more opportunity to volunteer

providing more journeys for our users

filling in the gaps by recruiting more volunteer drivers

We shall see how the new database develops over the next few months. We shall be working closedly with all the member groups that

have volunteer drivers and minibuses. This resource will be available to all our member groups when it is up and running. If you’d like more

BIG Lottery Volunteering Project

CAVO Volunteer Centre supports volunteering as an inclusive practice open to every individual.

Each person has a unique contribution to offer and a special something to bring to their

community through volunteering and as such CAVO is pleased to support the diverse range of individuals that come

together to create our colourful community.

To extend CAVO’s on-going dedication to Ceredigion’s community members BIG Lottery funding has been secured to:

Promote volunteering and the range of volunteer opportunities that are available across Ceredigion.

This promotion will raise the awareness levels of Ceredigion residents to the sector of volunteering

Provide appropriate support to all individuals who wish to volunteer, specifically to persons with additional

support needs i.e. physical disabilities, learning difficulties, visually impaired and mental health

Work with organisations and individuals within organisations to develop mentor roles. This will ensure that

appropriate support is available to both organisations and individuals

HAUL “The person i was telling you about, who was just

completing treatment at Rhoserchan and came to volunteer to paint

a mural we were doing just outside Bronglais. It was a life changing

experience for him, he hasn't looked back since then, and now has

full time job with good pay painting the new wing of the hospital ( his

first ever job, at the age of 30! ).

He said he would be glad to tell you his story and let you print an

Hi Rik ,

Hope you don’t mind me doing it this way. So I have a long history of getting in to trouble ,left school at

12 years old all ways hanging around with older people than me getting in to a lot of trouble. I have spent

the last 11 years in and out of prison spending more time in than out; I have never had a job and have got

a long history of drug misuse. I got released from prison on the 2 of august last year and went in to a

rehab in Aberystwyth to sort my drug abuse out while there I was offered a chance to do some voluntary

work that’s where I met Pod ,this was the first time I had done any type of work and really enjoyed it.

I spent 4 days helping out painting which I got a lot out of doing it this led to me being offered more

voluntary work with pod and also ended up getting me full time paid work ,building the new part of the

hospital I am just taking one day at a time now and working hard in my job. I am also setting up to do

more volunteer work at the treatment centre I was in ,very soon.

Doing voluntary work has helped me get my life on track and build myself up for the better.
