Create a map of their neighborhood and the places around it. Compare and contrast being a citizen in the city, state, and country. Demonstrate how people and places have changed over time. We belong to many different communities School, work, your family, etc. People everywhere belong to communities whether they are big or small Slide Menu Slide 6 Slide 7 A citizen has responsibilities and rules to follow A rule tells the people what they can and cannot do Everyone that belongs to the community is a citizen and must follow the rules set in place Slide Menu Slide 8 Rules need to be fair if they are going to be put in place. Fair means the rule is right and honest Rules should keep the community safe and peaceful Along with following rules citizens have responsibilities to keep their community a safe, clean, and good place. Slide Menu Slide 9 Many people are part of different groups such as your family, a team, your school, or your community. In each of your groups or communities you may have a different role. A role is your part in the group Slide Menu Slide 10 Within our community we live in a neighborhood Neighborhoods can include a school, grocery store, a park, a bank, or etc. We can see and learn about different neighborhoods by looking at a map. A map shows where places are or located at to find our way from one place to another. Slide Menu Slide 11 Slide 12 We live in neighborhoods that are part of a city, borough, or town. A city is a very large town We live in the city of Lebanon A suburb is a community near a large city Slide Menu Slide 13 The cities, towns, and other smaller communities create a state We live in the state of Pennsylvania Even bigger than the city or state is the country. The country is made up of the 50 states. A country has its own people and rules We live in the United States of America We are a citizen of all of these communities Slide Menu Slide 14 People and places change over time. We get older Grow bigger Families change Technology changes Slide Menu Slide 15 People in the community work together to meet their needs Something they must have to live Food, clothing, a place to live People also have wants Something they would like to have, but do not need Toys, games, movies People cannot have everything they want Slide Menu
