Concepts & Suggestions
20
Past and Present
• Probiotics are one of the fastest growing and most reputable categories in nutritional supplements
• Prebiotic/fibres not well established (are they needed in diet?)
• Food industries are mainly focus on food safety(Strict Regulation!) and taste (Money!)
• Developing and some developed countries are still behind yet very vulnerable
Future
•Consumer education on gut health.
•Conceptual products must be driven by Key Players •New discovery categories potential to meet future demands
•Increase consumer products with polyphenols and dietary enzymes
•Probiotics to mature over next ten years in most developing `countries
•Approval of DuPont probiotic gut health claim by Swiss Authorities will impact future discovery •Marketing digestive health claims to older consumers
