An optional course called 'Love and Marriage' has

become hugely popular among students after it was

recently set up at the Wuhan Polytechnic in Wuhan City,

central China's Hubei Province. This course is designed to

introduce students to major issues related to love and

relationships. Families and primary relationships are a

fundamental part of their life experiences.

Topics that will be discussed in this course include

diversity and inequality, love, sexuality, partnership and

marriage, parents and children, conflicts and crises and so

on. In class, students learn about romantic relationships

and marriage, and exchange their opinions through

discussions. In addition, the teachers use case studies that

they have come across in their counseling work.

Zhou Fengmei, who set up the course, said that she found in the course

of her psychological counseling work that some college students do

not consider their future marriage and family responsibilities. She said

that she hoped the course would help students understand better the

differences between men and women and form a healthy attitude

towards love. And she emphasized college students should know

marriage can be wonderful and very fulfilling, but getting married

doesn’t mean you’ll never be lonely again.

No matter you have a happy marriage or unhappy one, it is

still an earthly agreement because nothing can ever be

perfect. There can be great joy in marriage, but if it were

too great we would never want to leave this world. The

strife of this world doesn’t go away when you get married,

it just changes.

• 武汉职业技术学院今年首次开设的《爱情与婚姻》选修课受到了学生们的热捧。“恋爱与婚姻生活是需要学习与经营的。”谈起开课初衷，邹凤梅说。该课程从喜欢与相互吸引、爱情、性、婚姻中的投入与回报、婚姻中的冲突与暴力等，讲到了分手与离婚。学生们能对于爱情与婚姻定义有明确的了解并相互交流彼此的理解。老师还会用上案例分析教学法帮助学生正确认识爱。邹凤梅此前一直是学校的心理咨询老师。在接触到的心理咨询案例中，邹凤梅发现，大学生谈恋爱的人群中，存在盲目恋爱的现象。
