    DENGUE FEVER

    Is considered the most important mosquito-

    borne virus affecting human.

    A virus causes flu-like symptoms.

    Is transmitted by the bite of an infected

    mosquito.

    Occur in tropical regions. Incubation period 5-10 days.

    Caused by a virus flavi virus.

    Transmitted byAedes aegypti&Aedes

    albopictus mosquito

    Incubation period 3-15/7 (5-6/7).

    Susceptible time:

    1/7 before fever till day 5

    Mosquito become infective after 8-10/7

    sucking blood & continuing for life.

    TREATMENT

    No specific treatment only supportive care.

    Hydration

    Oral fluids

    IV fluids

    Antipyretic

    Do not give aspirin- due to bleeding

    NURSING MANAGEMENT

    Encourage oral fluids intake.

    Start IV fluids.

    Monitor & record vital sign. Monitor & record intake & output.

    Provides comfort.

    PPREVENTION

    Eliminate mosquito breeding.

    Use mosquito nets when sleeping.

    Avoid being in public, especially duringmosquito active such as early morning and

    evening.

    Wear long sleeves.
