*A martlet is a bird often used in heraldry. A martlet looks similar to the swallow, but has short tufts of feathers in the place of legs. (Swifts have such small legs that they were believed to have none at all.)The inability of the martlet to land is often seen to symbolize the constant quest for knowledge and learning, as in the arms of University College, Oxford; Worcester College, Oxford; Pembroke College, Cambridge; McGill University; the University of Houston and its Law Center; Westminster School, Simsbury, Connecticut (where the store is called the Martlet's Nest); and the University of Victoria (where the student newspaper is also called The Martlet). It has been suggested that this same restlessness is the reason for the use of the martlet in English heraldry as the cadency mark of the fourth son: the first son inherited the estate, the second and third traditionally went into the Church and the Army, and the fourth had no well-defined place. As the fourth son received no part of the family wealth and had to earn his own, the martlet was also a symbol of hard work, perseverance, and a nomadic household. This is what our campus looks like from above. Victoria is a city of 350,000 and is the capital of British Columbia. Our campus is largely within this ring on the east side of Victoria. The great thing is you can get anywhere on the campus in 10 minutes and you can easily walk to places like off campus shops or even the beach during your lunch breaks. The campus was designed to be easy to get around and to be a beautiful place. And it is both.

Experience a country that is diplomatic in its governance and truly multicultural. The US is known as the melting pot, Canada is known as a tossed salad. Cultures are welcome and continue with tradition.**Victoria*Intro

Accounting, finance, a little bit of everything**Co-op and exchange opportunities

One of our huge strengths is our work placements. We call this program Cooperative Education, or Coop for short. UVic has one of the largest Coop programs of any Canadian university. This means there are lots of opportunities to get paid work experience while you study. In some faculties like Engineering and Business, Coop is mandatory. You have to get a paid job as part of your study!

On average, Coop students earn more than 100,000 Rupees per month and they get great experiences, either in Canada or around the world. For instance, this picture is Adam Draginda. He studied Physics and Astronomy, and worked in Hawaii for one of this three four month Coop terms.

Many students end up working with their Coop employers as a full time job once they have finished their degree. But even if they dont, they have great experience to put on their resume.

    *Exchange opportunities

As well as working abroad, you can also study abroad. Many of our students decide to spend at least one semester studying in another country. For instance, more than 70% of our Business students do a semester in another country. This means they not only get a great experience overseas, but also that international students are truly welcome at Uvic because their perspectives are valued.By the end of their 4th year almost 50% of Uvic students have enriched their educations and their financial opportunities through a co-op experience, practicum or internship.ACE (ace the case club: case competition), AISEC ()Mention Self Report!!!
