Introduction:Govt. Degree College Thannamandi was established under PM Reconstruction Plan in the year 2005 with 47 students having only one subject combination of English, Applied Mathematics, Computer Application and Urdu in three rooms accommodation in Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School Thannamandi.
College was shifted to this own building in 2010. Presently the college is catering knowledge to 514 students( 254 Boys and 260 Girls) in 20 subjects of both science as well as arts streams through an excellent team of 29 faculty members in a beautiful college campus lying on left side of Thanna-Shahdara road.
In addition to it, several skill enhancement and ability enhancement courses have already been started. In 2008 and 2010, the College got affiliation with UGC under section 2(F) and 12(B) respectively. It has also been granted permanent affiliation with University of Jammu.
Since its inception it has not only been catering educational needs of this far-flung and hilly region of the State of Jammu and Kashmir but has also excelled in academic and non-academic sectors by winning several positions in university examinations and several other events.

For keeping the College well-connected with society. We organize following programs once in every session:
1. A programme in which students from all high schools and Higher Secondary Schools of Subdivision Thannamandi participate.

Years wise Performance of students in inter-institutions competitions for last five years:
2017-18• Two college toppers of Science and Arts streams were honored by Sub-
division administration Thannamandi on Independence Day function 15-08-2017. These students were also awarded cash prize of Rs.4000/- each by Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah Shrine on 01-11-2017.
• On 27-09-2017, one NSS Volunteer was selected for Pre-RD Camp by University of Jammu but unfortunately, he could not attended the camp due to his examination during the same dates.
• On 14-10-2017, One student bagged 3rd Position in Inter-College symposium on the topic “Life and Contribution of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam” held in GDC Thannamandi.
• On 11-11-2017, one student won 3rd Postion in Inter-College symposium contest held in MAM College Jammu for 3rd Moulana Azad Rolling Trophy

• On 24-03-2018, Students of GDC Thannamandi bagged Ist Position in Inter-College Quiz competition on the topic "Forest, Environment, Ecology and Climate", held in Himalyan Degree College Rajouri.
• On March 26-27, 2018, 12 NCC Cadets of GDC Thannamandi appeared in Examination for B-Certificate at Nagrota Jammu. Two students Qualified the same.
• On 13 -04-2018, one student bagged Ist Position in Inter-College Seminar organized by Sangarsh Rajouri.
• On07-03-2018, two students bagged 2nd and 4th positions in written test and presentation respectively in Inter- College Mathematical competition, organized by BGSB University Rajouri.
• One student of B.Sc. 2nd Semester of GDC Thannamandi topped in J&KState in National Graduate Physics Examination (NGPE-2018) conducted by a well recognized Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT).

On 17-08-2016, team of five students participated in Inter-Institution Singing Competition organized by 38RR Thannamandi in YEGN and clinched first position in the competition.
On 03-09-2016, One student bagged 3rd Position in 4th Women Science Congress, held in Govt. Women College GandhinagarJammu.
On 17-10-2016, one students bagged Ist Position in inter-college symposium on Life and vision of Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan jointly organized by Alig society Rajouri and P.G.College Rajouri.
On 19-01-2017, One student of GDC Thannamandi bagged 3rd
Position in the Inter-College Symposium on the topic “ Role of Youth” held in Govt. P.G.College Rajouri.

On20-03-2017, ten students of this college participated in Baba GhulamShah Badshah Mathematical Competition held in BGSB University. Two students bagges 2nd position( presentation) in the competition while as one (student of VI semester) and one student (student of IV semester) 3rd Position( written test).
• From 7-3-2017 to 9-3-2017, one student bagged bronze Medal in Inter-College Athelatic competition held in University of Jammu
• On 13-4-2017, one student secured Ist Position in Inter-Institution symposium conducted by Sangharsh Rajouri on 08-04-2017.
• On 27-04-2017, one student bagged Ist Position in inter- college symposium on the topic,” Truth and Non-Violence” held in Govt. P.G. College Rajouri.

2015-16: One student bagged 8th position in BA in university result On 07-11-2015, students of Govt. Degree College
Thannamandi secured top three Positions in the inter-institution symposium competition organized by Municipal Committee Thannamandi on the topic “Swatch Bharat Abiyan”.
On 16-11-2015, Four prizes out of eight were bagged by the students of Govt Degree College Thannamandi in an Inter-institution quiz competition on mother-child health organasid by Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt of India J&K.

• one student of this college participated in state level declamation contest on the topic “ Patriotism and Nation Building” held in Govt. Women College Kathua and bagged 2nd position with cash prize of Rs.15000/-. The contest was conducted by Nehru Yuva Kendra Kathua J&K, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Govt. of India.

• On 22-12-2016, one student of this college participated in state level declamation contest on the topic “ Patriotism and Nation Building” held in Govt. • One NSS volunteer of Govt. Degree College Thannamandi Mr. ShahrukhKhan student of B.A. Part-3rd participated in Republic Day Parade Camp New Delhi w.e.f. 01-0-1-2016 to 31-01-12016. His selection was made during ten days NSS camp held in Rajasthan during the month of October 2015. On 26-01-2006,
• The Ist NCC troop of Govt. degree college Thannamandi participated in March Past and also a group of 20 students participated in cultural programme in main function of republic day function held in Boys Higher secondary school Thannamandi. The cultural item bagged 2ndposition.

On 06-02-2016, JK Police organised Talent Hunt Programme Inter-institution Singing competition under “Chhona Hai AasmaanScheme. In the senior of GDC Thannamandi. Won first position and second position in senior category. 2014-15:From 22-11-2014, Cricket team of the college
remained runner up in Inter-tehsil Cricket Tournament organised by 38 RR and awarded with cash prize of Rs.13000/-

Tour and Picnics:College conduct one day Annual Picnic and subject tours of Botany, Zoology, Geography.For last three years our students are continuously participating in Capacity Building Tour(CBT) fully sported by 13 RR under Sadbhawana in different parts of India.

Recently twenty students and one faculty participated in Capacity Building Tour(CBT) fully sported by 13Sector RR under Sadbhawana and visted Indian Forest Academy,Forest Research InstitueDehradu, Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy Mussorie, Childern Foundation New Delhi and also met Governor of Uttrakhandand Padam Shri Milka Singh.
NCC Unit:The NCC unit was started in this college in the year 2016. Lot of
achievements. In addition routine activities, NCC cadents are encouraged to
attend all the reqiured camps.Two students have Qualified B-Certificate and four student have
been awarded medals for their best performance during camps at Nagrota and Jammu.

NSS Unit:The NSS unit was started in the college in 2007. It very active
Unit of the college.In addition to the routine activities one winter camp is organized
every year in the college. Students are encouraged to participate in different camps/ worshops within and outside the state including Shimla, UP, Rajasthan.
One NSS volunteer participated in Republic Day Parade 2016 in New Delhi 2.
This Unit has adopted two villages Rajdhani and Khabalaan.

Plantation and Cleanliness:For keeping the campus Green, it is permanent feature to
conduct plantation drives in both the seasons that is Feb-March, and July-august. Cleanliness drives are also conducted by NSS and NCC students.
College has developed a very nice Botanical Garden.It one of the most Green and Clean Campus of the state.

Sports Department:Sports Department of the college is very strong with Gymnasium
facility and having good play fields of Cricket, volleyball, Foot Ball, Cabbadi, Badminton, Kho-Kho. We have Table Tenis, Indoor games Carram, Chess etc. One Multipurpose Hall of 3.78 crors has sanctioned to this college. With this more indoor games will be started.
Students are frequently encouraged for participation in different inter-college and inter-institutions competitions.

Science Club:In order to develop scientific temperament
among the students, a science club has been established in the college. Different programs are being conducted through this club including celebration of National science day and National Mathematics Day.

Cultural Activities:College has Cultural/Literary Committee which
organises several programs and activities in the college. All the importants days are celebrated in the college Viz Teachers Day, World Students Day, National Education Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Poetic Meets, Symposia , debates etc.

Every year CRs are elected through Secret Ballot. One male and one female CR is taken from each class. Among the elected CRs one head boy and one head girl is elected by CRs.

Scholarships:About 80% students gets scholarship under ST, OBC and Pahari speaking categories. Infact any student whose parents income is less than 2.5 lacs gets scholarship.
Regarding Curriculum:The college is affiliated to university of Jammu. Curriculum prescribed by University of Jammu is strictly implemented. However all HODs of college are members of Board of Study of their concerned subjects. They actively take part in the modification and enrichment of syllabus.

Government through the following agencies:1. Appointments of all gazetted posts are made
through Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission.
2. Appointments of all non-gazetted posts are made through Jammu & Kashmir Service selection Board.
3. Academic arrangement appointments are made through administrative department.

Research and Innovations:Almost all the Ph.D staff including myself is very
active in research. We all have number of publications in our credit. Faculty is encouraged and allowed for participation in conferences. Recently one of the faculty member has participated in International conference in China. We have created an environment of research here. We organize National Science Conference to boost research activities.
