Survey - Newport policy for street naming and numbering /

Arolwg – Polisi Casnewydd ar gyfer enwi strydoedd a rhifo eiddo

9 August – 8 September 2019

The naming and numbering of streets and

properties in Newport is controlled by the

council under the Public Health Act 1925 so

that new or amended street and property

names and numbers are allocated in a logical

and consistent manner.

The council's adopted policy for street

naming and numbering is being reviewed and

updated.

Updated Community Well-being Profiles 2019 / Proffiliau Llesiant

Cymunedol wedi’u Diweddaru 2019

The profiles were first developed in 2017 to

support local authority areas in preparing

their statutory required Local Well-being

Plans.

A review of these profiles is currently taking

place to make improvements and update

them with the latest available data. This

process will take place on a phased approach,

with sections published separately rather than

as a whole profile.

These sections will consist of the following:

Preface; Population; Cultural Well-

being; Social Well-being; Economic

Well-being; and Environmental Well-

being.

Each publication will include a Newport

Profile and one for each of the 20 individual

communities.

New Update: Preface & Population

The profile sections for 2019 (Preface and

Population) have been published and are

accessible via the Newport Atlas website. The

remaining profile sections will be released

over the course of the next few weeks and

months.

Welsh versions of the Preface and Population

sections (Newport Profile only) will be

available on the website in due course.

Our Future Wales / Cymru Ein Dyfodol

To help inform her 2020 Future Generations

Report the Future Generations Commissioner

for Wales launched a National Conversation

in May 2019 and held four workshops in Bangor,

Wrexham, Carmarthen and Ebbw Vale. The

Commissioner talked about her work in

delivering the Well-being of Future Generations

Act and those who attended shared their

stories and experiences and told us what kind of

Wales they would like to see in the future.

1) Our Final Future Wales Workshop

Our last workshop in this series will take place

in Llandrindod Wells Fire Station, 13:30-

16:30 Thursday 3 October when you will

have an opportunity to share your stories,

experiences and suggestions. If you would like

to attend this event please register on

SurveyMonkey.

2) Organise your own events

We would love you to hold your own events, to

help you do this the Commissioner has

prepared a ‘toolkit’ and resources that you can

use in your own events or usual meetings and

conversations to feed back to us to inform the

2020 Future Generations Report.

We are also collecting stories, experiences and

views electronically (as many times as you like)

via the People’s Platform and you can complete

the online survey. If you would like to be more

involved in this project and help us to collect

stories and ideas please complete

our Expression of Interest form or just respond

to this email. We want to involve as many

organisations and people as possible who can

help extend our reach especially to those within

our communities who are seldom heard.

Popular city jobs fair returns next month / Ffair swyddi boblogaidd y

Newport's annual jobs fair is taking place in

Newport Centre on Thursday 12 September

from 10am to 1pm.

Once again, hundreds of jobs and training

opportunities will be on offer at the event,

organised by Newport City Council and

Jobcentre Plus.

Employers and organisations taking part this

year include: Wilko; Adecco (Recruiting on

behalf of Amazon); Celtic Manor; ABUHB;

HMRC; Newport Norse; Tesco ;Q Care;

Coleg Gwent; MOD; Vibe Recruitment; Pure

Gym; Newport Transport; Avon; Prince's

Trust;

GAVO; Utility Warehouse; Marriot Hotel.

In 2018, more than 2700 people visited the

jobs fair and, as in previous years, the

feedback from those looking for jobs,

businesses and training providers was

extremely positive.

Councillor Gail Giles, Newport City Council's

Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said:

"The jobs fair is packed with work and

training opportunities whether people are

looking for their first job, a change of

employment or want to gain new skills.

"It is a fantastic "not to be missed" event that

always attracts highly reputable local

employers as well as keen and motivated

jobseekers."

Draft National Development Framework / Fframwaith Datblygu

Cenedlaethol drafft

The draft NDF has been published for

consultation. The consultation will run until 1

November 2019.

Alongside the full document there is an easy-

read version and a summary for young people.

We have produced a short explanatory leaflet

and there are full and summary versions of the

Integrated Sustainability Appraisal and a full

Habitats Regulations Assessment report.

It would be helpful if you could promote this

consultation through your networks.

We could not have reached this stage without

the help of many individuals and organisations.

Active Inclusion Fund Information Session

Following the announcement of the extension of the Active Inclusion Fund with a further £11.7m

of funding, WCVA will be holding a series of information sessions during September to help and

support organisations who may be interested in applying.

The sessions are aimed to provide groups with more information and guidance on the application

process including what can be funded.

A Healthier Wales – Transforming health and care in Wales

The Welsh Government and Gwent Regional Partnership Board are hosting a series of free half-

day events where you can find out more about how health and social care services in Wales are

changing.

The current system can’t meet the demand that is placed on it every day. We need to make it fit

for the future.

A Healthier Wales is the Welsh Government’s long-term plan to bring health and social care

services together. Our aim is to move from an acute service to a wellness service, and move care

from hospitals into our communities. The aim is for people to be able to stay closer to home and

for as long as possible.

For this to happen, we need everyone who works in health, social care and the third sector to

think differently about how they work.

At the events you’ll hear from the Minister for Health and Social Services, senior leaders in health

and social care, and local people who are already transforming the ways of delivering services

throughout West Wales and across other areas of Wales.

Ever wonder what goes on up in the bell tower? Come along to St Mary’s

in Nash to find out! Join us for our first bellringing taster session and take

part in demonstrations, talks, and have a go for yourself!

Get involved and immerse yourself in the history of the Gwent Levels.

Comfortable clothing required. There are eight 30-minute sessions

throughout the day for you to choose from, just select your desired time

from the tickets list. If you wish to just look around the church there is no

need to book onto a bell ringing session.

Rugged Romans, Muddy Monks - Levels History Day! – Saturday 28 September 2019, 11:00am –

3:00pm

After last year’s successful event, we’re back with our family history day!

Exhibits, re-enactors and activities will bring the history and archaeology of

the Gwent Levels to life at this event for all the family! Discover our

stone-age ancestors, Roman soldiers and fascinating artefacts in the

grounds of historic Tredegar House. Oh, and did we mention some gate-
