Fact Sheet – Photo Mural by Ziggy Tucker, Artist UrbanArt Commission WELCOME TO WHITEHAVEN” PUBLIC ART PROJECT Community Meeting at Abundant Grace Fellowship July 10, 2014 "Whitehaven has an interesting history. Originally, it was its own town before being annexed into the Memphis city limits. Although most of its historical landmarks have been demolished over the years, much of its pride and history reside within its people of the community. This mural was designed with those ideals in mind. Portraits and landscapes used are of landmarks, teachers and business people positively influencing the local youth, current and future residents of the community. " Ziggy Tucker The artwork will welcome residents and visitors to Whitehaven at the southeast corner of the intersection of Brooks Road and Elvis Presley Boulevard. The photobased mural design will be produced as a largescale photo etching on five aluminum panels that form a curved canvas of 8’ H x 20’ L within an architectural framework. City Engineering Representatives: Manny Belen and Brad Davis Shelby County Representative: Darren Sanders, Shelby County Engineering The City of Memphis is overseeing the reconstruction of Elvis Presley Boulevard. At the Brooks Road intersection, the Welcome to Whitehaven marker has been designated for a public art feature in the form of a photobased mural. The UrbanArt Commission is facilitating the artist selection and design review process for the City of Memphis and its Public Art Program.
