• Ordering, partitioning and rounding numbers anddecimals to 2 places
• Solving one- and two-step word problems involvingnumbers, money or measures
• Mental methods and recall: sums, differences,
doubles and halves of decimals
• Factors, common multiples
• Patterns, relationships and properties of numbers
and shapes
• Representing a problem using calculations or
diagrams
• Visualising 3-D and 2-D shapes
• Properties of 3-D and 2-D shapes
• Nets of solids
• Using a calculator
Literacy:
Our first unit is ‘Poetic Style’. We will be
focusing on the following skills:
• As a class and in groups, children hear, read and
study in depth a range of poems from twosignificant writers, Pie Corbett and Valerie
Bloom. They will explore some of the many
elements and features of these poems which
together constitute the writer's distinctive
style, including language effects, pattern and
form, subjects, themes and meaning. The children
will be encouraged to respond to and perform the
poems in a variety of ways.
• The children will write their own free verse
poems, inspired by those they have read, and
borrowing, melding and adapting elements and
features from these in order to begin to develop
a style of their own.
