Documentation is particularly extensive for the Andrija Artuković and John Demjanjuk cases. Processing history: Julie Schweitzer, December 2014 Biographical note Earlean McCarrick (1930‐2002) was a political scientist and assistant professor of government and politics at the University of Maryland. She wrote a series of articles with Henry Friedlander about Nazi criminals in the United States for the Simon Wiesenthal Annual. Scope and content of collection The Earlean McCarrick collection consists of research files documenting cases of denaturalization, deportation, and extradition of accused Nazi criminals and collaborators in the United States and the role of the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) in those cases. Denaturalization files document denaturalization proceedings against accused Nazi criminals and collaborators in US District Courts, Circuit Courts, Immigration Courts, and the Supreme Court. Records include OSI digests of cases, court records, notes, Westlaw case digests, Lexis‐Nexis court records, printed materials, drafts of articles, press releases, and correspondence. Deportation files document deportation proceedings against accused Nazi criminals and collaborators in US District Courts, Circuit Courts, Immigration Courts, and the Supreme Court. Records include OSI digests of cases, court records, notes, Westlaw case digests, Lexis‐Nexis court records, printed materials, drafts of articles, press releases, excerpts from the Congressional Record, and correspondence. Extradition files document extradition proceedings against accused Nazi criminals and collaborators in US District Courts, Circuit Courts, and the Supreme Court. Records include Westlaw case digests, notes, printed materials, court records, Senate records, draft articles, and excerpts from the criminal code. Andrija Artuković files document deportation and extradition proceedings again Artuković in US District Courts, Circuit Courts, and Immigration Courts. Records include court records, Westlaw case digests, printed materials, correspondence, notes, and OSI digests of cases. John Demjanjuk files document extradition, denaturalization and deportation proceedings against
Demjanjuk in US District Courts, Circuit Courts, Immigration Courts, and the District Court of Jerusalem. Records include court records, printed materials, notes, Westlaw case digests, and OSI digests of cases. Office of Special Investigation files document the establishment of the OSI, its role in pursuing Nazi criminals and collaborators in the United States, and the history of the United States’ relationship with immigrant Nazi criminals and collaborators. This series includes printed materials, OSI digests of cases, Senate bills, speeches, Senate committee records, Congressional records, correspondence, Displaced Persons Act legislative history, notes, reports, press releases, and a deportation order.
