You are special ………
A well – known speaker started off his seminar by holding a $20 bill. In the room
of 200, he asked, who would like this $20 bill? Hands started going up. He said, I
am going to give this one to one of you, but first, let me do this. He proceeded to
crumple the bill up. He then asked, who still wants it? Still the hands were up in
the air. Well, he replied, what if I do this? He dropped it on the ground, and
started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. Still hands went into the air. My
friends, you have learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the
money, you still wanted it, because, it did not decrease in value. It was still worth
20 dollars.
Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled and ground into the dirt by
the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel that
we are worthless, but , no matter what has happened or what will happen, you
will never lose your value, dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are
still priceless to those who love you. The worth of our lives comes not in what
we do, or whom we know, but by who we are. You are special, don’t ever
forget it!
The cheapest, if not the best, computer is the one located between your ears.

A new year has begun. We have high hopes that 2016 will be as successful and productive as 2015 has been. The Easter bazaar will take place on March 19 at St. Michael’s Hall. In preparation, pyrogy and cabbage roll workshops are planned for every Tuesday in February and March until the bazaar date Dates of paska and babka workshops have not been determined. The public can purchase frozen and fresh goods, as well as a hot Ukrainian meal.
Some humor: We were making leaflets for a local Church, and the client wanted a logo designed with Earth being shielded by the hand of God. I sent the client a proof. Shortly thereafter, I got a call. Client: The hand looks too human. Please use a hand that looks like God’s. Submitted by President: Mary Paltazt

President’s Report by Ron Kluchka
Hoping everyone enjoyed Malanka and Sviata Vecheria (Epiphany) with family and friends. Our January 16th Malanka was attended by 176 people and many positive compliments were received. The 50/50 continues to be a great hit and the performance by the Veeteretz Ukrainian dancers was thoroughly enjoyed. The success of these events would not be possible without the many great people who volunteered their time. Thank you to all. Special thanks to Jim and the kitchen staff who once again did a superb job. On behalf of the St. Michael’s Men’s Society, we would like to express our deepest sympathy to Alex Palamarek for the recent loss of his wife, Mary Ann and to Marie & Lloyd Holden & the many members of the Euchuk & Chornoluk families for their recent loss of Mary Ann Euchuk & Rose Chornoluk. May their memory be eternal. Vichnaya Pamyat

Who are these saints?
Saint Joseph the Betrothed was the lineage of King David. In his first marriage, he had four sons and two daughters. After he became a widower, St Joseph led a life of strict temperance. He was chosen to be the husband and guardian of the Most Holy Theotokos, Mother of God, who had taken a vow of virginity. An Angel told Joseph of the Incarnation of the Son of God through her. St. Joseph was present when the shepherds and the Wisemen worshipped the New-born Divine Infant, Jesus Christ. On the orders of the Angel, he fled into Egypt with the Mother of God and the Infant Jesus, saving them from the wrath of King Herod. He lived in Egypt with the Virgin Mary and the Divine Child, working as a carpenter. St. Joseph died at the age of one hundred and is commemorated on the Sunday after the Nativity of Christ and on the Sunday of the Holy Forefathers.
St. James the Brother of the Lord Jesus, was the eldest son of Joseph the Betrothed from his first marriage with Solomonia. St. James is remembered after the Feast of the Nativity of Christ together with his father Joseph and the Holy Prophet King David, since he accompanied his Family on the
flight into Egypt and lived there with the Infant Jesus, the Mother of God and Joseph. Later he returned to Israel with them. After the Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ, St. James was the first Bishop of Jerusalem, gaining the great esteem not only of the Christians, but also of the Jewish Nation. He was thrown from the roof top of the Jerusalem Temple because he had publicly preached about the God-manhood of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is also commemorated on November 5th.
The Holy Prophet King David was a forefather of our Lord Jesus Christ according to the flesh. The youngest son of Jesse, David shepherded a flock of sheep belonging to his father. He was distinguished by his deep faith, and he zealously fulfilled the will of God. During a battle with the Philistines, he vanquished the giant Goliath in single combat, which decided the outcome of the war in favor of the Israelites. He endured many things from King Saul, who saw him as a favorite of the people and his rival. David, however, showed his own decency magnanimity. Twice, when he had the opportunity of killing Saul, he did not do so. After Saul and his son perished, David was proclaimed King of the southern part of Israel and after Saul’s second son was killed, he became King of all Israel. He built a new capital, Jerusalem “The City of Peace” and a new Tabernacle. His great wish was to build a Temple was not realized. It was foretold to him that his son would build the Temple. The life of Prophet David was darkened by a grievous falling: he took his soldier Uriah’s wife for himself and sent Uriah to his death in battle. He was also an example of great repentance, humbly and with faith bearing the sorrows sent in punishment for his sins. He gave a model for repentance in Psalm 50/51. King David died in great old age with steadfast faith in the coming of the promised Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ. His divinely inspired Psalter (Book of Psalms) is widely used in the Divine Services and in personal prayers. The Holy Prophet King David is invoked by those who face difficult situations in life. The Holy Prophet King David, St. Joseph the Betrothed and St. James the Brother of the Lord are commemorated on the Sunday after the Nativity of Jesus Christ. If there is no Sunday between January 7th and January 14th , then their commemoration is moved to January 8th. In Jerusalem, the Saints mentioned above were combined with a feast that the Jews of Hebron celebrated on January 7th or 8th in honor of the Old Testament Patriarch Jacob. Later on, the Christians substituted St. James for Jacob, and then the commemoration of the Brother of the Lord became associated with his ancestor King David. In time, St. Joseph was linked with Saints David and James.
