REPORT FROM BELIZE
2015 2006 2015
In 2006 the Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ campaign to Belize
was held in Corozal. Brother Jerry was accompanied by two of his
grandsons, Blake and Drake Jenkins (see picture). They were about 17
years old at that time and spent the week with Bro. Jerry as he taught
them how to knock doors, set up and conduct Bible studies. Almost ten
years has passed since that time. We received a call from Blake wanting
help with a Belize campaign. His plan included himself, Drake, and 5
other preachers and youth ministers to go and conduct Bible studies in
Belize. We provided basic information and in turn asked Bro. Melvin
Davis to work with their group which he gladly did. We all had some
reservations and concerns about how successful a “first” campaign of
26 year olds could be. We should not have had these concerns! This
campaign was conducted last week, August 7 thru 14. This group of 7
young men baptized 21 people and now there are 21 new Christians in
Ladyville, Belize. We are grateful for the desire that Blake and Drake
have for the work in Belize. The tradition of spreading the gospel that
their grandfather had and that Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ has
today, continues through their efforts.
Please consider signing up for the 2016 campaign, the rewards are
greater than the sacrifice of money and time. The dates for the cam-
paign will be April 1 - 8, 2016.

The Home of the Redeemed
There was a time many years ago when Donna and I were thinking of possibly moving to do mission work in the Fiji Islands. Donna knew someone who had worked there and who was looking for someone to replace him. As we talked about the possibility of actually making that move my first interest was to see exactly where Fiji was located and then I read some articles about it. Later Donna and I met with Dan Jenkins because he had worked as a missionary in Fiji. Dan had us over to talk with us about the work there and he showed us several slides of the island and the people. Things didn’t work out for us to go but I thought that our reaction when we thought we might be going was typical. We wanted to learn about this place that might be our new home. I think this is the normal reaction of people. They want to know about this new place to which they are going and I believe it’s the same way with heaven. We’re not going to live here for-ever and as Christians we make plans for moving to that new home which Christ has gone to prepare for us. We want to know all about it. Some people are interested because of loved ones they hope to see there. Some are not so excited because they know that to reach heaven they must first go through death and that is something most people fear. Job long ago called death the king of terrors (Job 18:14). I read one time of a young woman who was travel-ing and at night they had to pass by a cemetery. She was asked if she was afraid and she responded by saying, “Oh no, my home is just past it.” So the Christian doesn’t fear death because he knows his home is just past it. It’s hard to adequately describe that home because it’s a place for our spirits to live and all we’ve ever known is the mate-rial. It’s not unlike the reaction of the Queen of Sheba as she came to visit Solomon, to hear his wisdom and to see the fabu-lous kingdom over which he ruled. “And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, 5 the food on his table, the seating of his ser-vants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cup-bearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, there was no more spirit in her. 6 Then she said to the king: "It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. 7 "However I did not believe the words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard” (I Kgs. 10:4-7 NKJV). When the apostle John wrote of heaven he could do so only in terms of the earthly life he knew. He could speak of “the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, :20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass” (Rev. 21:19-21). -to be continued
