Grammar and Notes

陈述句 Sentences with adjectival predicate

1. 肯定句Affirmative form:

S………………(adv)…………Adj.

Wǒ hěn mánɡ。

Tā shēn tǐ hěn hǎo。

2. 否定句Negative form:

S………………(adv)…………Adj.

Xuéshen ɡ bú duō。

wǒmen bù mánɡ。

Note:

(1)Adjectives are used independently as the predicate in the

sentence with an adjectival predicate. The verb “shì (to be)” is not

needed.

(2)The negative form of a sentence with an adjectival predicate

is made by placing the negative adverb “bù” before the predicate

Page 5: 生存汉语 _Survival Chinese_ Module 2 _ 2009年 4月

adjective. It is wrong to put “bú shì” between the subject and the

predicate adjective, therefore, we can never say:

* Gōn zuò bú shì mánɡ ɡ。

* Shēntǐ bú shì hǎo。

before predicate adjectives.
