• Ex.Visitors were served a rather frugal fare in the cistercian guesthall.

• one that serves merely for wages; especially : a soldier hired into foreign service
• Ex. Mercenary troops were actually raised from the very men who had bought themselves out of feudal service.

● a state of great commotion, confusion, or disturbance
● Ex: It was obvious to everyone in the room that she was in turmoil during the quiz.
