The e-learning tool VIKO
• aims to enhance the students’ information literacy and academic writing skills
• may be used as an interactive course or a tool box, and includes subject guides providing subject specific information
• is designed for students at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and developed at NTNU University Library
• offers equal access for students with disabilities, e.g. visually impaired (universal design)
NTNU’s new intranet
• is equipped with web 2.0 functionalities focusing on user generated information, collaboration and knowledge sharing
• supports targeted role based dissemination of information
• has topically organized content
• is an integration portal based on mashup and allows individual customization
Integration of VIKO in NTNU’s new intranet
• means that VIKO is linked as an academic writing resource from the topic Thesis writing targeted at students in the process of writing a thesis or research paper
• is an opportunity to help the students get what they need when they need it
• facilitates easy access to VIKO from a new environment in the university setting
• contributes to increased use of VIKO on mobile platforms, e.g. smart phones
• is a supplement to implementation in NTNU’s virtual learning environment where inte gra t ion of learning resources in the courses depends on the teacher responsible
• is a result of both formal and informal approaches as well as proactivity, i.e. information to key persons in an early phase about VIKO as a provider of practical tools for academic writing
• assists further development of VIKO as the students may comment on the content
