Day  1:  Warm  Up  

•  Categorize  the  candy  on  the  table  and  be  ready  to  explain  how  and  why  you  chose  this  way  to  group  it.  

•  At  your  table  discuss  how  the  candy  on  the  table  is  similar  to  genre.

Day  1:  Science  FicQon  

•  Learn  about  science  ficQon  by  independently  playing  the  Science  FicQon  challenge  board  on  Quia.  Use  World  Book  Encyclopedia  online  to  find  the  answers.  

•  Cool  Down:  List  at  least  one  characterisQc  of  science  ficQon.  

•  Sign  up  for  Genre  Games  Quia  Class.

Day  2:  Science  FicQon  

•  Warm  up:  Share  with  table  partner  one  thing    learned  about  science  ficQon  yesterday.  

•  Finish  playing  the  science  ficQon  challenge  board,  using  World  Book  to  find  the  answers.  

•  Divide  into  3  teams  to  play  the  challenge  board  game  as  a  team.  

•  Cool  Down:    Create  a  presentaQon  in  Google  Docs,  called  Mind  Stretches.

Day  3  Mysteries:  

•  Use  the  World  Book  and  Gale  Encyclopedia  online  to  learn  about  mystery  ficQon.  

•  Play  Jumbled  Words:  Mystery  Vocabulary  game.    

•  Create  a  Wordle  word  cloud  with  the  4  elements  of  a  mystery  and  important  vocabulary  for  the  mystery  genre.

Day  4:  RealisQc  &  Historical  FicQon  

         1.    Warm-­‐up:  Play  Jumbled  Words:  Mystery  Vocabulary  on  Quia  or  Telephone  game  (teacher  directed).    2.    World  Book  search  for  realisQc  ficQon.    Learn  about  highlighter  feature.  Repeat  for  Historical  FicQon.  3.  Quia  Cloze  acQvity.    4.    Learn  about  the  student  account  in  TLC  and  create  a  list  of  at  least  two  books  for  each  genre.    5.    Cool-­‐down:  Share  one  book  Qtle  from  one  of  your  lists.

Day  6  Periodicals  

•  Warm  up:  Play  Literary  Genre  Hangman  on  Quia.  

•  Search  World  Book  for  “newspaper”  and  use  the  Gist  Template  in  Google  Docs    to  write  summarize  in  20  words.    The  sentence  should  answer    Who  is  the  audience?  What  is  its  purpose?  Where  can  it  be  found?  When  is  it  published?  Why  is  it  important?    How  can  you  use  it?  (5W  &  1  H)  

•  Share.  •  Repeat  for  magazines  and  journals.  

•  Cool  down:  Mind  Stretches  for  Periodicals.

Day  7  Folklore:  

•  Learn  to  use  the  highlighter  tool  in  World  Book.  

•  Teams  research  myths,  legends,  fables,  or  fairy  tales  to  write  a  definiQon  and  characterisQcs  in  Mind  Stretches.    

•  Use  InspiraQon  to  take  notes  on  all  4  types  as  teams  share.

•  Play  Folklore  Ba9le  ship  game  on  Quia.  •  Play  the  Genre  Review  Challenge  Board  Game  independently  and  then  in  teams.  

•  Sing  and  dance  Genre  Hokey  Pokey  •  Students  take  SummaQve  Assessment  on  Quia.
