EVALUATION 7- PRELIMINARY. From the start of our preliminary task we have progressed a large amount, ideas which we came up with in that video have been slightly altered as the months went past as we thought that the shots we came up with before starting our filming were to hard to do. the story line of our opening sequence at the moment is completely different to the preliminary which we made near the start of the year, the preliminary was set in a school classroom which was supposed to appear as if it was an interrogation or meeting room the footage shows two characters sitting down talking about a supposed package deal that has gone wrong. Not only has the story line changed from an agent to a young working class man who's being haunted by his supposedly dead brother who got caught in a house fire when they were younger but the mood and genre of the film has changed, the reason behind this is because the preliminary was mainly based upon action however action genres are too hard to create on a low budget since they consist of guns, explosions and chase scenes. As an alternative we chose a thriller genre due to the reason that thrillers are less intense instead they build tension through mystery. as you can see below the preliminary was set in high key lighting were as our opening sequence now is set in low key to create an unnerving mood to the audience. From the preliminary we barley used adobe after effects to add in sound effects or an interesting title sequence, however in our opening sequence we used more editing skills to make the titles and footage better than the preliminary. also we used adobe after effect to incorporate a radio over the top which related to the content being shown at the time, furthermore we used after effects to change the length of shots to help build up a climax such as the nightmare scene when we used fast paced editing in order to do so.

We used a variety of shots throughout this short preliminary, for example there is a match on action when the character walks towards the door and pushes it open as the next shot is shown from the other side of the door showing this character walk through making it seem as if both shots were filmed at the same time. this shot is efficient as it doesn't break the continuity of any shots in the preliminary, another shot we use within the preliminary was a shot reverse shot which can be seen when both of the characters are talking this has been done so that audience are aware of which character is speaking.

we used a match on action in our opening sequence as well for example when the main character wakes up from the nightmare we are shown his reaction for a high angle and then shown him in another shot reaching towards his phone to turn off the alarm.

Throughout the process of creating the opening sequence I learnt new ways in which to film shots such as match on action and the 180 degree angle rule. for instance we used another match on action shot to show the character reaching towards a broken picture frame which caught his eye, this helps keep the continuity for the sequence of shots as they can be linked together since the audience are able to see one movement in one shot then the next in the following sequence, this prevents any confusion for the viewers. the screenshots show this match on action form the character reaching towards the glass and picture frame which then in the next shot is linked as it shows his hand picking up the glass.
