THE BALD BOY and THE SULTAN’S DAUGHTER

Sultan kızının ülkenin en zeki kişisiyle evlenmesini ister. Bunun için bir yarışma düzenler. Yarışmayı herkese bunu duyurur. Birçok kişi saraya yarışmaya katılıp kazanmaya gelir.

Sultan wants his daughter to marry to the most clever person in the country. He arranges a competition for this. He announces the competition among people. A lot of people come to the palace to join and win the competition.

Keloğlan da yarışmayı duyar. - ‘’Kel fakat akıllıyım’’ diye düşünür. Ben de yarışmaya katılacağım.Tüm yarışmacılar sarayın bahçesinde sıraya girerler.

Keloğlan also hears about the competition. He thinks:-’’I’m bald but I’m clever.’’ I will join the competition,too.All competitors line up in the palace garden.

Sultan ve kızı gelirler. Sultan yarışmacılara bakar ve: -‘’Kızıma uygun olduğunuzu düşünmüyorum fakat göreceğiz’’der.

The Sultan and his daughter come. The Sultan looks at the competitors and says: - I don’t think that you are suitable for my daughter but we will see.

Sultan ilk sorusunu sorar:- Söyleyin , gökyüzünde kaç tane yıldız var ?Her yarışmacı farklı sayılar söyler fakat cevapları yeterli değidir.

Sultan asks his first question.- Tell me, how many stars are there in the sky?Every competitor says a different number but their answers aren’t satisfying.

Şimdi sıra Keloğlan’dadır. Şöyle der:- Sultanım. Özür dilerim fakat eğer cevabı bilirsem,gerçekten kızınızla evlenmeme müsaade edecek misiniz? Sultan söz verir. Keloğlan cevap verir:- Gökyüzündeki yıldızların sayısı saçınızın sayısıyla aynıdır. Saymaya başlayın.

It is Keloğlan’s turn now. He says :- My Sultan. I’m sorry but if I know the answer, will you really let me marry your daughter ? Sultan promisses. Keloğlan gives the answer:- Number of the stars in the sky is equal to number of your hair. You go ahead and count them.

Sultan cevabı mantıklı bulur ama kızını kel oğlanla evlendirmek istemez ve şöyle der:- Daha çok soru var. Eğer onları da bilirsen,kızımla evlenebilirsin.

The Sultan finds his answer reasonable but he doesn’t want his daughter to marry a bald boy so he says:- There are more questions. If you know them as well, you can marry to my daughter.

Diğer yarışmacılar ilk sorudan sonra elenirler.Sultan ikinci soruyu sorar: - Dünyanın merkezi neresidir?Keloğlan bir süre düşünür. Kelkafasını kaşır ve yanıtlar.

Other competitors are eliminated after the first question. The Sultan asks the second question : - Where is the center of the world ?Keloğlan thinks for a while. He scracthes his bald head and answers.

- Dünyanın merkezi tam olarak şu an durduğum yerdir. Eğer inanmıyorsanız, ölçün ve görün. Sultan şaşırır. Keloğlanın cevabı mantıklıdır. Keloğlanın cevabını kabul etmek zorunda kalır. -“Üçüncü sorunun cevabı zordur Keloğlan cevabı bilemez böylece kızım onunla evlenmek zorunda kalmaz” diye düşünür.

-The center of the world is just where I’m standing right now. If you don’t believe me, measure it and see. The Sultan is suprised. Keloğlan’s answer is reasonable. He has to accept Keloğlan’s answer. He thinks: - The third question is so hard that Keloğlan can’t know the answer so my daughter doesn’t have to marry him.

Sultan’ın kızı Keloğlanı beğenir. Keloğlanın akıllı bir çocuk olduğunu düşünür. Son sorunun zor olduğunu bilir. Bundan dolayı babasına: - “Baba, Keloğlan zekasını ispat etti. Daha fazla soru sormana gerek yok. ” der.

Sultan’s daughter admires Keloğlan. She thinks Keloğlan is a smart boy. She knows that the third question is hard so she says: - Father,Keloğlan proved his intelligence. You don’t need to ask more question.

Sultan kızına kızar. -“Tam orada dur! Bu benim işim. Son soruyu soracağım. ” der. Uzun, düz bir tahta ile Keloğlana döner ve sorar: - Söyle bakalım, bu tahtanın hangi tarafı kalındır?Keloğlan tahtayı alır ve inceler. Bir müddet düşünür.

Sultan gets angry with his daughter. He says:- Stop right there! This is my duty. I will ask the last question.He turns to Keloğlan with a long, flat stick and asks:- Tell me, which side of this stick is thick?Keloğlan takes the stick and examines it. He thinks for a while.

Bu arada, Keloğlan sarayın bahçesindeki havuzu görür. Tahtayı havuza atar. Herkes şaşırır. Tahtanın bir tarafı suya batar. Keloğlan - “Gördüğünüz gibi tahtanın kalın tarafı suya batıyor.” der.Sultan şaşırır. Artık başka sorusu yoktur.

Meanwhile, Keloğlan sees the pool in the palace garden. He throws the stick into the pool. Everyone is confused. One side of the stick sinks into the water. Keloğlan says: - Thick side of the stick sinks into the water as you see. The sultan is confused. He doesn’t have anymore questions.

Sultan sözünü tıutar. Kızıyla evlenmesine izin verir. Keloğlan ve Sultan’ın kızı evlenirler. Sonsuza dek mutlu yaşarlar.

The Sultan keeps his promise. He lets Keloğlan marry his daughter. Keloğlan and Sultan’s daughter get married. They live happily ever after.
