Antah Karana (AK) – Inner instrument• Animals are PROGRAMMED ( less evolved AK)• Humans have a FREE WILL ( Ability to plan, execute, have a goal, look at

future, decide and Act) Evolved AK• AK - working levels

– At basic instinct level – similar to animals (4 things)– At Free will level – Ability to discriminate and decide

• The AK is influenced by many things– Ones likes and dislikes– External situations– Memories and experience– Knowledge– Habits etc….

• The basic instinct level AK is not changeable . • It follows the law of nature• The free will related AK can be influenced / changed

Purpose of Antah Karana - Blessing• One of basic nature of AK is to question and find reasoning for every thing. Rational

faculty• Why, What, how, when where etc…. So many thoughts connected / unconnected.

These thoughts are called Vrittis• Without thoughts / reasoning we feel are not at PEACE• Once we have all reasons for everything in this cosmos we will be at PEACE Impossible

task• Shastra and Gurus have shown a path to reach this state of AK ( Inner PEACE) is by

resolving the thoughts• Patanjali Rishi has pledged that Inner PEACE is sought by seeing TRUE SELF in his Yoga

• Vritti in the AK can be resolved by Yoga. By that one can see the TRUE SELF Inner PEACE

• Patanjali Rishi has proposed a technique in the Sadhana Pada - Ashtanga Yoga the 8 limbs

Yama - Restraint.

• Ahimsa = non-violence, non-harming, non-injury • Satya = truthfulness, honesty • Asteya = non-stealing, abstention from theft • Brahmacharya = Celibacy, walking in awareness of the highest reality• Aparigraha = non-possessiveness, non-holding

• Yama = codes of restraint, abstinences, self-regulations

Niyama - Practices

• Shaucha = purity of body and mind• Santosha = contentment • Tapah = training the senses, austerities• Svadhyaya = self-study, reflection on scriptures • Ishvara = creative source, causal field, God, Pranidhana = dedication, devotion, surrender of fruits of practice • Niyamah = observances or practices of self-training

– Knowing the AK….Protection ( Yama) & Immunization (Niyama) will improve awareness of this Inner instrument.

– It will help from Shuddi to Siddhi

• From Transactional aspect– We have an Aligned Manasa , Vaacha Karmana (Thought, speech and action) Reduces stress

– Your 6 MAJOR Enemies reduce and are controlled Kama , Krodha, Lobha, Moha , Mada ,Matsarya ( Raga Dwesha)

– Your AK does not get colored by society.– Do not be GARBAGE BIN

– Improves personality and firms the character– Improvement in self respect / Image / Esteem–

We know it yet do not practice - Hurdles

• These Values are known. Many of them are common sense ( Have general knowledge)

• What we Miss out is VALUE of these Values (No Conviction)

• We look selfishly at our selves being the beneficiary and not society at large (My Convenience)

• Justify oneself • IT is TOUGH and requires Efforts and commitment
