Representing age• Within our film opening, there are various

iconographies that support the conventions of particular age groups.

• The prop used in the medium close-up of the laptop supports the stereotype about teenagers.

• Teenagers are typically associated to be “lazy” and “modern”.

Representing age

• Laptops are modern and typically used for leisurely activities such as video games.

• The background shows a group of teens at prom, which then links the laptop with that particular social group which supports the stereotypes connected with teens.

Representing age

• The costumes used in our film opening also support the stereotypes associated with teenagers.

• In this mid shot, we can see a young male wearing a hoodie with a backwards cap.

• Hooded teens are often seen to be deviant and threatening, which relates back to the ideology of t teens being violent.

Representing age• The props used in the film opening subverts the

stereotypes associated with middle aged people.

• In this mid shot, a tall middle aged man is holding an axe in an unsafe manner.

• This subverts the ideology of middle aged people being responsible and sensible, as the antagonist is mistreating the use and purpose of the axe.

Representing age • The setting used subverts the stereotypes of teenagers.• In this mid shot, the surrounding area of this young

character is woodland/countryside.

• But conventionally you’d expect to find teens in urban areas.

• This also subverts the ideology about teens being lazy or unfit as he is out walking in the countryside.

Representing gender

• The film opening both supports and subverts the archetypes associated with males.

• The camera angle used supports the archetypes about males.• This low angled shot shows a

male in a dark coat + an axe sharp axe.

• The low angle supports the archetype about males being dominant and strong, as it has been structured so audience appear to be looking up to him, which suggests he has more power.

Representing gender

• This same shot, however, could subvert the archetypes associated with males.

• The makeup in this shot can be used to disprove this.• In this low angled mid shot,

we can see the antagonist has long hair.

• This subverts archetypes associated with males as long hair is a trait that is conventional for females.
