Οι οκτώ (8) θεμελιώδεις αρχές των Οικονομικών 1. Όλα τα πράγματα έχουν ένα κόστος. 2. Το κόστος ενός πράγματος είναι αυτό που θα θυσιάσεις για να το αποκτήσεις. 3. Ο άνθρωπος σκέφτεται ορθολογικά. 4. Ο ορθολογικός άνθρωπος σκέφτεται οριακά. 5. Οι άνθρωποι αντιδρούν στα κίνητρα. 6. Η ανταλλαγή ωφελεί και τους δύο. 7. Ο καλύτερος τρόπος οργάνωσης της οικονομικής δραστηριότητας είναι η αγορά. 8. Το κράτος όμως μπορεί να βελτιώσει τα αποτελέσματα της αγοράς. Δέκα (10) βασικοί όροι των Οικονομικών Ανεπάρκεια (scarcity). Οι πόροι που διαθέτει μια κοινωνία είναι περιορισμένοι. Οικονομική Επιστήμη. Η επιστήμη που μελετά τον τρόπο που η κοινωνία διαχειρίζεται τους ανε- παρκείς πόρους. Αποτελεσματικότητα (efficiency). Η ικανότητα μιας κοινωνίας να αξιοποιεί όσο γίνεται καλύτερα τους ανεπαρκείς πόρους της. Κοινωνική Δικαιοσύνη. Η ικανότητα μιας κοινωνίας να διανέμει τον πλούτο ακριβοδίκαια μεταξύ των μελών της. Κόστος ευκαιρίας (opportunity cost). Ό,τι θυσιάζουμε όταν επιλέγουμε κάτι άλλο. Οριακές αλλαγές (marginal changes). Μικρές αλλαγές στα σχέδιά μας. Οικονομία της αγοράς. Μια οικονομία που κατανέμει τους πόρους της μέσω των αποκεντρωμέ- νων αποφάσεων πολλών εταιριών, νοικοκυριών και ατόμων, όταν αυτά αλληλεπιδρούν στις αγορές αγαθών και υπηρεσιών. Αποτυχία της αγοράς (market failure). Μια κατάσταση κατά την οποία η ελεύθερη αγορά απο- τυγχάνει να κατανείμει τους πόρους αποτελεσματικά. Εξωτερικότητα (externality). Η επίδραση των πράξεων ενός ανθρώπου στην ευημερία ενός τρίτου. Ισχύς στην αγορά (market power). Η δυνατότητα ενός ατόμου ή μίας επιχείρησης (η ομάδας ατό- μων / ομάδας επιχειρήσεων) να ασκεί σημαντική επίδραση στις τιμές της αγοράς αυτής.
