“Angle of Attack”

Angle produced at maximal board deflection (bend)

These 2 elements determine how high and/or how far out a diver

travels.

Page 20: Front Somersault Tuck Position

Diving Skills Front Flip “Angle of Attack” Good Good

Good BadTake Special Note of the body position the angles are similar but the different body positions is one of the core problem between

good and bad dives.

Page 21: Front Somersault Tuck Position

Diving Skills Front Flip “Angle of Attack”Good Good

Good Bad

The good diver is standing tall while the bad model is more hunched over. Even though she creates a similar angle her dive will suffer with regard to the flip.

TOP (area)

5.69 feet between “top” and completion of dive

Page 23: Front Somersault Tuck Position

Top

How much area is the dive performed in (up and down)

The dive on the left uses the same area but completes the

dive, even though she is 5’09 and her counterpart is only 4’8. The smaller one should be able to complete this dive easier. 5.59 feet 5.27 feet

Body Position and the “Center of Mass”

Center of Mass

Where does their center of gravity travel throughout the dive?

How big of a path does it make?

How fast does it move?

Page 34: Front Somersault Tuck Position

Two different divers (dive104C) “Rotation & Body Position”

Red = Bad Green = Good

Together they do not look that different

Page 35: Front Somersault Tuck Position

“Rotation & Body Position” (dive104C)

Good-

• Center of mass goes up then down

• Flip is completed on the way up

Bad-

• Center of mass goes up, out, & down Trace is more round

• Flip is completed on the way down
