Takalar – 92254, Sulawesi Selatan ABSTARCT: Reproduction performance of mud crab Scylla Olivacea Herbst using eyestalk ablation technique This study was aimed to obtain the description of ovarium maturation rate, quality and quantity of mud crab larval obtained from ablation brooders. Brooders were cultured into 2 concrete tanks; 1,5 m x 2 m x 1 m of each. Concrete tanks were based by 20 cm of black muddy sand and maintanance of water level up to 40 cm. Each concrete tanks consists of 4 brooders (weight > 200 g/individual), using eyestalk ablation and non eyestalk ablation treatments. Water exchange was conducted 100 – 200% daily before feeding. Parameter recorded were brooders survival rate, latency period and incubation period, respectively. As the conclusions, eyestalk ablation has significantly influenced on the ovarium maturation rate, but not significant on latency period, larval quantity and incubation period. Eyestalk ablation may lead to high the mortality of brooders. Key words : eyestalk ablation, brooders, mud crab Scylla Olivacea Herbst, reproduction performance ABSTRAK: Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan gambaran tentang kecepatan pematangan ovarium, kualitas dan kuantitas larva kepiting bakau yang berasal dari induk yang diablasi. Induk betina kepiting bakau Scylla Olivacea Herbst dipelihara dalam 2 buah bak beton ukuran 1,5 m x 2 m x 1 m dengan ketinggian air berkisar 40 cm. Dasar bak berisi hamparan substrat pasir hitam berlumpur setinggi kurang lebih 20 cm. Tiap-tiap bak berisi 4 ekor induk (berat > 200 g/individu), dengan perlakuan ablasi tangkai mata dan tanpa ablasi. Pergantian air dilakukan setiap pagi hari sebelum pemberian pakan sebanyak 100-200%. Pengamatan performa reproduksi meliputi sintasan induk, periode latensi dan lama inkubasi. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini adalah ablasi berpengaruh pada kecepatan pematangan ovarium, tetapi tidak berpengaruh pada periode latensi, jumlah larva yang dihasilkan

Ablasi tangkai mata juga rentan menyebabkan tingginya kematian pada induk.
