We made the new platform 60% faster and this resulted in a 14% increase in donation conversions.

When all the infrastructure was complete we built an identical page on the new platform and compared it to the old platform. We were pretty blown away with the results.

The page with 10 results took .4 seconds to generate. The page with 30 results took .9 seconds.

Half a second delay caused a 20% drop in traffic. Half a second delay killed user satisfaction.

Half of the downloaders loaded our landing page in under 2.10 seconds. For non-downloaders, that figure was 3.67 seconds — 75% slower.

Previously, we predicted a 1 second reduction in page load speed would improve download conversions by 2.7%. In reality, our optimized experimental variation shaved 2.2 seconds off the average page load time and increased download conversions by 15.4%!
