Charles Demuth (1883 – 1935) Lived and worked in Lancaster,

Pennsylvania. His house is now a museum. Oil painter Known for starting the art movement

Precisionism His life was relatively short due to a

history of poor health. Walked with a cane. He may have

had a childhood injury or polio. Developed diabetes as an adult.

Was one of the first to receive insulin in the US.

Precisionism

PrecisionismAn American movement, it was influenced by Cubism and Futurism, Precisionism explored industrialization and the

modernization of the American landscape. The structures of buildings and objects are precise, sharply defined

geometrical forms.

Futurist- Celebrate the energy of new technology

Cubist- explore shapes and looking at objects from multiple perspectives

Precisionist- Combing the ideas of futurist (technology) & cubist (shapes and perspective)
