I just returned from Iraq and it was unbelievable! It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. My heart was truly moved as I was able to witness firsthand the spiritual warfare.

There is a window of opportunity for religious freedom in Iraq that isunprecedented and I am excited to be a part of God’s work.

I was reminded once again how easy it is to get overwhelmed by theneeds of our world. But, God has not asked us to help everyone, or to meetevery need. He has only asked us to be faithful and obedient. He has onlyasked us to help the people He places in our path.

God continues to allow us to see countless changed lives … thousands of churches planted where none exist … children receiving help and hopethrough sponsorships … and millions of Bibles provided to those who havenever even seen a Bible, much less owned one.

My life mission is to accomplish at least one thing, each and every day, that will outlive me and last for eternity. What an incredible opportunity we have to make an eternal difference!

May God continue to use World Help to reach the ends of the earth!

In spite of years of tyranny and war, and now insurgency,

God has allowed World Help to make a significant impact

in the country of Iraq. You won’t hear this on the evening

news or read about it in your newspaper, but despite the

wave of violence you see every day, the truth is … the

Middle East is open to the Gospel. In fact, God is moving

in an amazing way across the entire Arabic Muslim world.

aving just returned from an incredible trip to Iraq, my heart was truly moved at what I was able to see and hear firsthand. God allowed me a glimpse into the spiritual warfare that our

brothers and sisters in Christ go through on a daily basis. When we arrived in Iraq, there was a terrorist attack

not far from where we were … several explosions hadkilled more than 50 people. Hearing it on the news wasone thing … witnessing the turmoil firsthand was quiteanother. Ghassan Thomas, our partner in Iraq, told usthat bombs were exploding all around his neighborhoodin Baghdad and the walls of his house were shaking. There were also a lot of U.S. military helicopters in the air and reports of several other incidences throughoutthe city … we were in a war zone.

I met with several government officials who welcomed me to Iraq and shared their personal stories of torture and oppression under Saddam Hussein. They told me that in one day, Saddam murdered (withweapons of mass destruction) more than 180,000 of hisown people in a particular area. We visited one of the villages that Saddam had destroyed where more than5,000 people have returned and are trying to rebuild.

But, I was encouraged as I was told that whenSaddam Hussein was in power, there were only 5 evangelical churches in all of Iraq. Today, there are

12 new churches in Baghdad alone and hundreds ofnew churches throughout the country. The church inIraq is experiencing incredible growth!

This whole experience made me realize how important it is for us to get God’s Word in their handsand in their hearts immediately … while the door remains open.

Since beginning our work in Iraq in February 2004, we have been able to provide over 700,000 Bibles and New Testaments to new believers, as well as a Christian student center across the street from Baghdad University where more than 50,000 students attend. And on my recent trip, God allowed us to provide church buildings, a children’s center and discipleship training for the hundreds of new believers.

But providing copies of God’s Word is not enough for some Muslim seekers.

Many of them, especially those who are well educated, rarely come to faith in Christ without months or even years of study and struggle. They need the time and the security to fully examine the claims of Jesus in comparison to the Qu’ran.

That’s why we have the incredible opportunity to provide an extensive Light & Truth Christian Library on CD-Rom.

5 S P R I N G 2 0 0 6 W O R L D H E L P . N E T W O R L D H E L P . N E T S P R I N G 2 0 0 6 6

H These CD-Rom sets include a side-by-side comparison of the Qu’ran and the Bible, an entire Bible study course, commentaries on the books of the Bible, a dialogue between a Muslim and a Christian on who Jesus really is, and much more.

The more educated Iraqis seem to prefer theentire Christian Library on CD-Rom. CD’s can be more easily copied, transported and distributed than the equivalent amount of printed material. Can you imagine carrying the Bible and hundreds of books, references and an entire evangelistic and discipleship training program all in your pocket?

Plus, it is far safer and more secure to have these materials on computers and disks (out of plain view of the radicals and terrorists).

The Light & Truth Christian Library has alreadybeen an enormous success. We have provided nearly 15,000 CD-Rom Libraries on the University of Baghdad campus, as well as through other Arabic speaking countries.

Our long-term strategy is to continue providingthis resource and enable our partners to distributethem throughout the Arabic world.

It has been said that every Arabic Bible we provide reaches an estimated 10 Iraqis with theGospel. Every Light & Truth Christian Library on

CD-Rom set we put in the hands of a Muslim seeker, may impact as many as 100 Muslims.

Well-educated Iraqis spend a lot of time studyingChristianity and have the technology to do so. Whilethe poor and less educated are not likely to have computers, we will still provide them with copies ofGod’s Word.

Please pray that God would continue to give usthe incredible opportunity to reach Iraq and the entireArabic speaking world with His Light & Truth.

I can tell you that together, we are making atremendous difference in this war-torn country!

FOR EVERY LIGHT & TRUTH CHRISTIAN LIBRARY WE PROVIDE, IT IS ESTIMATED TO IMPACT AS MANY AS 100 MUSLIMS.

For more information on the Light & TruthChristian Library or providing Bibles for Iraq, please call 1-800-541-6691 or visit our website at worldhelp.net.

Ministry VehicleFor years, our ministry partner, James Lalrobul, traveled throughout Northeast India on a simple motorbike, through the dust, mud and rain, faithfully serving the orphans who live at Gilgal Childrens Home in Manipur. Recently,World Help partners provided him with a new ministry minivan. James and his family are grateful for this wonderful gift and simplywant to say,“Thank you!”

Bibles for IraqThrough an outpouring of love for the Iraqi people, we havebeen able to provide over 700,000 Bibles and New Testaments to Iraq … that’s almost three quarters of a million Bibles in just a little over two years. But our partners tell us that more areneeded. These Bibles are disappearing as fast as we can providethem … which is tremendous! Without a doubt, these men and women of God are so grateful for all we are doing to helpprovide them with the Word of God.

Children’s Home ExpandingThe Good Samaritan Children’s Home in Kampala, Uganda will soon add three more floors thanks to the generosity of World Help’s partner churches and supporters. When completed, the expanded home will provide a safe, secure and loving environment for 480 orphaned and needy children, many of whom have seen their parents die of AIDS.

China Training Initiative China is experiencing unprecedented social and cultural change. Chinese house-church leaders are asking for new and effective ways to train their next generation of pastors and church planters. We are praying and planning with other ministry partners working in China to help meet this urgent need.Plans for 2006 include participation in the equipping of special trainers to work directly with house-church movements in China, to implement a truly Chinese model for leadership development.

I wish that everyone could see the world as I have seen it … to actually see firsthand the masses of hurtingpeople, the hungry and orphaned children, the displaced families, the lepers, the poor, as well as experiencethe smells and sounds. But even more than that, I wish for you to see the world through the eyes of God.Thank you for helping meet these great needs. We could not do what we do without you.

One Building – Many UsesOur ministry partners in India are earning the right to be heard in unreached villages through the construction of multi-purpose buildings provided throughWorld Help. The buildings will give poor village children a clean, dry place in which to go to school during the week, as well as provide a center for Christiantraining and worship on the weekends. Five of these “multi-purpose”centers have been built so far in the least-reached areas of North India.

New Property for Maru AshaOur ministry partner,Trevor DeLinares, is now one step closer to realizing his dream of providing a permanent campus for the Maru Asha Children’s Home in India. Thanks to gifts from many of our friends, the acquisition of over four acres of land near Jaipur has been completed. The next phase is to start the building process for a boys’ and girls’ dorm, classroom buildings and a chapel. His vision is to see 500 needy boys and girls from India’s worst slums, living in a loving Christian home and receiving nutritious food, health care and a good education.

Training Leaders in MyanmarMore than 150 Christian leaders, from across thenation of Myanmar, were trained in the capital ofYangon by a joint World Help/Rivermont EvangelicalPresbyterian Church teaching team. Rivermont EPC,a long-time ministry partner of World Help, sponsorsthis annual training conference which helps to equipand encourage Burmese pastors and workers toplant churches where no churches exist.

oday, in a world of over 6 billion people, there are still entire groups of people who have neverheard of Jesus Christ. We believe that every man, woman, and child can be reached. World Help’s

vision is to help plant indigenous, reproducing churcheswhere there are no churches.

It is our goal to plant 100,000 churches in theunreached areas of the world. Our strategy is provenand effective:

Train national church planters Supply support and resources for church planters Provide a church building in which to worship

In 2005,World Help was able to help plant over7,200 new churches in India, Nepal, Myanmar, Russia,Thailand and the Middle East through the efforts of our indigenous ministry partners. We have recentlybegun to support church-planting efforts in two otherstates in North India, in addition to Uttar Pradesh, and we are also supporting teams there that work amongthe Muslim communities.

God is doing great things through the work ofthese committed men and women. They are very

effective at sharing the Gospel – they know the culturebecause they grew up there, they speak the language, and they can establish instant rapport with the people to whom they minister.

This year, we are looking forward to expanding thenumber of church-planting teams we support in India,as well as the opportunity we have to begin workingwith a church-planting partner in China.

ew things are as heart-wrenching as the cry of a starving baby, the look on the face of a disease-ravaged child, or the sight of a dirty, abandoned child rummaging through garbage

or curled up sleeping on a street curb … alone! It is hard for us to imagine, but in many parts of theworld … millions of children suffer so much more in their young lives than we will ever experience in our lifetime.

Sponsoring a child can mean the differencebetween life and death for many of these children. We cannot help them all … but together, we canchange the world … one child at a time!

Recently, our partners in China took us to visit a small children’s home high in the mountains of Western China. (Because of security reasons, we cannot share pictures or provide details about thespecific location of the home.) About half of the children are true orphans; while the other half havedisabilities and special needs. These children need our help today.

In Northern India, bordering Nepal, we wererecently introduced to 42 precious Nepali children atthe Little Flower Children’s Home. They are living indilapidated buildings with leaky roofs, going withoutnutritious food to eat, and unable to attend schoolbecause they do not have the resources … theyreceive very little support. We need to find sponsorsfor all 42 children immediately.

As a World Help child sponsor, you can ignite a spark of hope in the life of a child. A gift of $24 amonth can provide the basic necessities a child needs, such as food, clothing, an education, and medical attention. Most importantly, you can sharethe message that God loves them and has a specialplan for their life.

There are thousands of children just waiting for someone to love and help them … will that someone be you?

FChanging the World One Child at a TimeA Child is Wait ing for Someone to Care

ith tears streaming down her face she asked,“What does thismean?” “Why are they doing this?” “I don’t understand thesethings.” These are words that still ring through my ears as Akellodescribed to me her story about being raped repeatedly at 14

years of age and then given to one of the rebel soldiers as his wife. Untilthen, I had only heard about them … read about them … even viewed adocumentary about them … Uganda’s Forgotten Children … but now, I waswitnessing this experience with my own eyes and ears – and I will never beable to forget.

I could barely contain my emotions as I listened as she told me her horrific story. She went on to tell me how she was forced to kill three of herfriends from her village before the soldiers took her away. As one of their tactics, the rebel army strives to instill fear and so traumatize these children(some as young as six), that they believe they could never go back home.

A few days later, I stood with our World Help team on a hill in the middleof a refugee camp that could not have been more than 10 acres, where thelocal village pastor explained that there were over 3,500 mud huts housingnearly 17,000 people. He then took us to visit his modest mud hut church, where hundreds of these refugee boys and girls were waiting for us to comeand talk with them. I stood there, in that sweltering mud hut church building, with my heart breaking, realizing that these families had nothing but thehope that someone would come and bring them help. I tried to encouragethem with my words, but they spoke to me through their eyes of pain anddesperation … I will never forget!

We visited Noah’s Ark – a center where the “night commuters” (childrenescaping the bush) come for safety. There I witnessed hundreds of children, some of them walking up to eight miles to reach this center. Parents didn’tknow if their children would make it home safely the next day, while childrendidn’t know if their parents would be there when they returned. I was standing next to our ministry partner in Uganda, who said with tears in hiseyes,“This has to stop!” As these children sang and danced until it was timeto go to bed, it dawned on me that this is their daily experience … one which has been indelibly printed on my mind and heart.

As we flew over Uganda that day, I prayed,“Lord, please touch me,break my heart, and give me a love and vision for these people to see themas You see them.”

DR. TOM THOMPSON: World Help Senior Vice PresidentAfter 21 years serving as the Executive Pastor at Shadow Mountain Community Church, in El Cajon, CA, with Senior Pastor Dr. David

Jeremiah,Tom has joined the staff of World Help as Senior Vice President. Tom and Vernon Brewer (World Help’s President) have been

life-long friends, and have traveled to many countries of the world together. For the past five years,Tom has also served as a board

member for World Help. With his passion for the world, we welcome Tom as our Senior Vice President.

WUganda’s “forgotten children”crisis is an appalling

and horrendous situation that we have not been able to forget. Over 14,000 children, some as young as 5 years old, travel on foot each night to escape abduction, rape, and violent attacks by Ugandanrebels to find refuge in the town of Gulu, in NorthernUganda. If they can’t find an empty building, most of them end up sleeping on the streets … anything is better than the alternative.

Several pastors from the Gulu area shared with World Help their vision of starting 10 GoodSamaritan Children’s Centers immediately to providefood, clothing, medical assistance, and the trauma and grief counseling each of these children need tobecome mentally stable again. In addition, the children would have the opportunity to hear theGospel and see the love of Christ in action!

World Help immediately began the tremendoustask of helping provide 10 centers. Today, these centers are operating and providing care for thesedesperately needy children.

During a recent trip to Gulu,World Help visitedmany of the centers and several of the InternallyDisplaced Peoples (IDP) camps. We saw thousands of people living in the worst of human conditions. One camp had 17,000 people crammed into 3,000huts. Most of the children in this camp had been born and raised there and know nothing more thanthese squalid, cramped conditions.

However, just a few miles away is one of the newGood Samaritan Children’s Centers. The children inthese centers come from the IDP camps. Nearly all aretrue orphans and many had been abducted by therebel soldiers. Several of the young girls were forcedto have sex with the soldiers … and are now childmothers themselves.

In Lira (an hour’s drive from Gulu), there are twoGood Samaritan Children’s Centers. We were able

to see some of the children from the camp that werenow clean, in school uniforms, and for the first time, many were wearing smiles on their faces! There isnow hope, where there was once hopelessness.

It was a joy to see them excited and ready to start boarding school. Our Ugandan partner, AlexMitala, and his team of pastors have selected the finest Christian boarding schools available. His rationale,“Why take them from ashes to ashes? We want them to have a future.”

The commitment of these pastors to oversee the Good Samaritan’s Children Centers is impressive. They are sacrificing their time out of love and compassion for these children.

World Help’s goal now is to provide one milliondollars in order to continue supporting these 10 centers for a period of three years. Our long-termstrategy is to find sponsors for the children at the centers through our Child Sponsorship Program.Through the combination of financial gifts and childsponsorships, we will be able to continue providinghelp and hope to the forgotten children of Uganda.

Please open your eyes and heart to the needs of these children … and may we never forget!

What Does This Mean?

Page 8: عدد حملة التنصير في العراق

n their 6th year of ministry,World Help’s Children of the World International Children’s Choir hasbrought the “forgotten children”of Uganda into the hearts and minds of thousands of people

across the U.S. These 33 precious children, from severaldifferent countries, bring the mission field to you!

This year’s choir takes you on an incredible journey into Africa as they share this compelling story of thousands of terrorized and hurting children that desperately need our attention and our help! We began our tour in September with the goal to provide 10 Good Samaritan Children's Centers in the most needyareas. These centers will provide shelter, food, clothing,

medical assistance, educational opportunities, and mostimportantly, they will have the opportunity to hear aboutthe love of Jesus.

In just the first four months, Children of the Worldhas helped to provide the first year of operation for fivecenters. As additional funding comes in through thechoir’s efforts … we will be able to provide continued help for all 10 centers for the next 3 years.

God is definitely ministering through Children of theWorld this year and lives have been touched as we work together to change the world … one child, one village, one country, one continent … at a time!
