DESCRIPTION

Islam and Modernity. It is a book written by a Tunisian scholar of modern Islamic thought and civilization. The book embraces modernist universal values. In order for the Muslims to adopt democracy as a governing mechanism, they must adhere to the Enlightenment values, namely the creation of western thinkers. Without such values as justice, equality, freedom of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of press, the writer sees that Muslim countries will continue using and reusing the same dogmatic ideas without submitting their religious texts to new methodologies involving the human sciences, namely anthropology, linguistics, ethnology, ethnography, history, etc.
