As the number of objects grows exponentially and our needs for learning expand equally dramatically, the lack of information or metadata about objects places a critical and fundamental constraint on our ability to discover, manage, and use objects.This standard addresses this problem by defining a structure for interoperable descriptions of learning objects.

StandardThe parameters proposed by a learning object metadata standard assist in locating, evaluating and sharing learning resources. The adoption of an Israeli standard will help create a common language for the use of various databases, and will thus expand the range of objects available to users.

Before step 2, we had a lot of technical discussion. In that discussion we examined tested and finally decided what would be the right system for us.And we decided that Merlot would be the one.After defining the ISARCore we were looking for the platform. After examining several options we decided to join MERLOT.

We wanted to be part of an already existing system, that provides access to a large number of learning objects, instead of building our system from scratch. Being part of MERLOT exposes our users to Learning Objects from all over the world.The MERLOT metadata closely matches the ISRACore requirements for mandatory elements.In May 2009, a contract was signed between MEITAL and MERLOT.16 - : -. : . : ". : ".The MAOR website was developed to serve as a Hebrew-language portal to MERLOT, and functions as a major Israeli online learning resource repository, containing materials for both K-12 and Higher Education audiences, as well as the general public.

MEITAL Member institutions are actively submitting Hebrew language materials to the collection.MEITAL is currently beginning with MERLOT the process of batch-entering to the repository, our extensive Hebrew-language collections of learning materials, that are resident on multiple university servers in Israel.So far 2000 records have been uploaded to MERLOT through MAOR, and we expect that within the next few months this number will increase by several thousands of learning objects.
