History
LSI Zurich was founded in 1954 and originally operated under the name Two Cities ClubLtd. The school has been a member of Language Studies International since 1980. In1999 we changed our name from Two Cities Club to Language Studies International, orLSI Zurich for short.LSI Zurich has always been a place where young people (or the young at heart) couldcome together, free of social (or other) prejudice, to learn the foreign language of theirchoice. Starting off as a family run business offering courses in English, the school soonbegan to offer courses in French, Italian, Spanish and lastly German. The choice remainsthe same today with one difference only: German has advanced to become the onlylanguage offered on our intensive programmes.
Since the early days of Two Cities Club, more than 50,000 students have attendedcourses at our school. It is our goal that you, like those who have gone before you, willmake the maximum progress possible in learning German , the foreign language of yourchoice when you are here.
EAQUALS
LSI Zurich is the first full member of EAQUALS (The European Association of QualityLanguage Services) in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. Founded in 1991,EAQUALS is a pan-European organization that seeks both to promote and guarantee
quality in modern language teaching institutions. To achieve these aims it has establisheda demanding set of criteria that schools have to satisfy in order to become members(www.eaquals.org). Full membership is by inspection only and LSI Zurich passed its initialinspection in May 2000.

TEACHING
Methodology:
The Communicative Approach
From your first day we aim to teach the target language in the target language i.e. Germanin German. Total immersion in the language of your choice brings you maximal input.Multinational classes where students have no common language require this, and yourmemory is best trained by it. However, your teacher may use your native language tocheck that you have understood an instruction correctly or quickly help out if a
communication activity is breaking down for want of a word.
At the lower levels of language learning, Grammar is featured largely. Most course booksbegin every unit with an item of grammar. Your teacher will present these, help youunderstand them, then you will put them into practice via transformation exercises,gap-fills, comparative sentences and the like.
At every language level, our main emphasis is, as the title suggests, alwayscommunication. In the final analysis, we learn a foreign language not to acquiregrammatical structures or to pass examinations, but to communicate; to share opinions, express feelings and relay information. Building on this premise, we seek through roleplays, small group work, discussions and projects to encourage each individual to useGerman both within and without the classroom.

Sounds like hard work? Well built-in games and well paced activities afford breathingspaces for you to gather your strength in order to continue. Learning, if it is to be
successful, needs to be fun.
Course structure
Morning lessons are primarily course book based: grammar explanation and practice, listening, reading, vocabulary and speaking.
The afternoon lessons are less course book based: discussions, role plays, project work, literature and special needs.

ACCOMMODATION
Home Stay Programme
Of the international students attendingcourses at LSI Zurich, approximately half ofthem choose to live with Swiss host familiesduring their stay. The reason is simple: itprovides an ideal opportunity tocommunicate and interact with the Swissoutside of the classroom.
Our host families provide a comfortable, private room furnished with all the amenitiesof a modern home. Shared accommodationfor couples or close friends are availableupon request. All our families offer half board
with breakfast and evening meal. Bed & Breakfast accommodation is also provided. ManySwiss are relatively informal when at home and may ask students to "help themselves" tobreakfast rather than serving them. Some hosts are able to accommodate special dietaryrequirements.
Be a part of a host family
Students will be provided with clean bedlinens and towels weekly. All hosts will allowstudents to use their laundry facilities. Veryfew hosts allow smoking in their homes andstudents who smoke will be asked to smokeoutside. "House rules" regarding the use ofthe telephone, overnight guests, kitchen
privileges, etc. will vary from family to familyand should be discussed with the host. It isimportant for students to remember that theyare living in a private home and shouldrespect the lifestyle of their hosts.

Even though I am Swiss myself, I must say there is a big difference between the French- and the Germanspeaking regions of the country. I like Zurich a lot and want to come back later here to study. My stay inZurich brought me a lot, both deepening my knowledge of the (German) language but also getting to knowZurich better helped me decide about my later study location.
TEACHERS | Cline, FranceDie Lehrer bei LSI Zrich sind einfach super. Ich habe in der Zeit hiersehr viel gelernt. Der Untericht ist motivierend und sehr lehrreichgestaltet.
