New APSAOganized Sec-tion ExploingExpeimentalreseachAt its spring meeting, the APSA Councilapproved the establishment o a neworganized section on ExperimentalResearch. The idea or the section grewrom the recognition o Donald Green(Yale University), Rebecca Morton (NewYork University), and a number o otherscholars that with the rapid growth anddevelopment o experimental methods inpolitical science has come a set o termsand concepts that political scientists mustknow and understand. The section hopesto build on this growth by providing aorum in which research based on thesetechniques can be shared and discussed.

As stated in its ormation materials, theSection will dene experimental researchbroadly to encompass scholarship advancedby lab, survey or feld experimentation span-ning the disciplines subfelds including, butnot limited to, comparative politics, inter-national relations, public policy, Americanpolitics, political behavior, etc. The Sectionwill create and sustain a place or the mas-tery o the methodological skills appropriateto conducting experiment-based research. This level o visibility, in turn, will spreadthe interest and energy political scientistscan bring to important research questions, produce more and better research and teach-ing, and stimulate the training o new gen-erations o scholars.

The Section will hold its rst businessmeeting at the 2010 Annual Meeting inWashington, when it will ratiy bylaws, setmembership dues, and hold its frst election. The section will be included in the programcommittee or the 2011 Annual Meeting inSan Francisco, where it will hold its rstpanels. For inormation on how to becomeengaged with the new section, please contactKevin Esterling (University o Caliornia,Riverside) at [email protected]
