THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE®
• In The Student Leadership Challenge®, Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner—today's premier leadership experts—demonstrate how any student can be a leader, regardless of age and experience. Grounded in over 30 years of extensive research, they have identified The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® that are common when leaders are able to make extraordinary things happen.
• Learning framework:
• Model the Way: Leaders establish principles concerning the way people (constituents, peers, colleagues, and customers alike) should be treated and the way goals should be pursued. They create standards of excellence and then set an example for others to follow.
• Inspire a Shared Vision: Leaders passionately believe that they can make a difference. They envision the future, creating an ideal and unique image of what the organization can become.
• Challenge the Process: Leaders search for opportunities to change the status quo. They look for innovative ways to improve the organization. In doing so, they experiment and take risks.
• Enable Others to Act: Leaders foster collaboration and build spirited teams. They actively involve others. Leaders understand that mutual respect is what sustains extraordinary efforts.
• Encourage the Heart : Accomplishing extraordinary things in organizations is hard work. To keep hope and determination alive, leaders recognize contributions that individuals make. They make people feel like heroes.

OVERSEAS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PROGRAMS (CIPs) & LEADERSHIP
• CIPs are usually part of an educational tour, with the program spanning between 1 – 3 days with a set theme.
• As both a travel agent and a learning and training organization, OIA is introducing a more sustainable and enlightened approach to overseas CIP trips.
• OIA has designed an educative program aiming at empowering students and teachers for meaningful CIP sustainable programs that go far beyond charity.
• A key outcome is authentic leadership development that can be derived from such programs.
• Our programs are created to prepare students before the trip itself, and to provide opportunities for students to continue being challenged after.
• This creates a much higher return on investment and a more holistic learning experience. The greatest learning for many students and teachers is through experiencing an authentic exchange of culture, appreciation and values.
• It is about receiving as much as giving, keeping an open mind, an open heart and looking at each other as equals.“Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day.
Teach him how to fish and he'll eat forever.”
