Open to undergraduate law students across India, this essay competition seeks to encourage creative thinking and promote research and writing about crucial legalissues in the field of information technology and the internet. The IJLT The Indian Journal of Law and Technology (IJLT), is a student-run law journal published by the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. Apart from being India’s only law journal devoted exclusively to the interface between law and technology and featuring articles from distinguished authors such as Hon. Justice Mr. Kirby, Raymond T. Nimmer, Donald S. Chisum, Lawrence Liang among others; the journal also organises several events such as a lecture series in association with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), a broadband policy course with LIRNEAsia and research assistance to academics for projects that they are engaged in. The SFLC The Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC) provides legal representation and other law-related services to protect free, libre and open-source software. Founded in 2005, the Center has represented many of the most important and well-established free software and open source projects, including the Free Software Foundation, the Apache Software Foundation, the Gnome Foundation, Joomla! among others.

In India since 2010, SFLC has aimed at preparing litigation defenses, filing patent oppositions to fight software patents and engaging in policy work to promote Open Standards, Open Access and ensure digital freedoms.

Issues on the Internet.JudgingThe winning law essays shall be determined through a blind review by a panel of eminent academicians in the field of law and technology.

There will be two judges from each of the aforementioned areas.

Prizes     Ist Prize – Rs. 10,000     IInd Prize – Rs. 7,500     IIIrd Prize – Rs. 5,000     Best First Year Student Essay – Rs. 2,500

The winning law essay shall also be considered for publication in the next issue of IJLT, in accordance with the Editorial Policy.
