Wellcome Collection

A galaxy away from the blue chip collectors, the

auction rooms and the private views at LarryGagosian, outsider art can offer up some of the

most refreshing, compelling and surprising of

images. Like street or folk art, it represents an

invitation into a culture, or an individual’s psyche,

that has nothing to do with fashion or primary andsecondary markets. It can be raw and candid. It

can be beautiful and disturbing.

Qessa Academy

The power of a story can be enough to power

change.

At the Qessa Academy we act as story harvesters. We gather the seeds of stories. We plant and

nurture them through a series of education

programmes and platforms. Then we disseminate

their fruits to inspire transformation.

By supporting the Afghan people to preserve,

share and harness the power of their own stories,

our mission is to help to craft a new narrative for

the country. At the heart of this narrative – fueled

by the abundant stories of love, growth and hopewhich rise up though the memory of its people – is

peace and progress.

This is a story we believe is worth telling. Our

work makes that belief come true.

CaCO3 / The Collector's Lab

I just received a special invite for a very special

exhibition…

CaCO3 / The collector's Lab

--

by Laura Lynn Jansen & Thomas Vailly

--

‘The collector’ wanders around the volcanic region

of Auvergne in France, he collects samples and

excavates fossiles. He is a hobbyist, a geologist, an

historian, an ecologist and a maker.

Thermo-mineral spring let him turns the leftoverof human activity into stones, drop by drop, The

natural process of petrification allows ‘the

collector’ to discover and envision a near future in

which man made material and objects get fossilize

into eternity. The result of this research is acollection of geologically grown objects combining

natural and synthetic material.

Codex Seraphinianus

In October Rizzoli will be republishing what is

regarded by many to be the strangest book in the

world, the Codex Seraphinianus.

The Codex is unlike other historically well-known

strange books (such as the Voynich Manuscript), in

that the author of the book is not only known

(Luigi Serafini is his name), he’s still alive.

But the book is just so damned strange that it has

accumulated a veritable industry of speculation

about its meaning, deeper origins, and whether

the language in which it is written actually has any

syntax or not. Serafini has said relatively little

about it himself over the years, and denies that

the script has any meaning, but

no one really believes that, including me.
