目前世界上進行商業運轉的核能電廠都是以鈾為燃料進行核分裂連鎖反應進而產生熱能，再將水加熱成高溫高壓的水蒸汽，用於推動汽輪機，再帶動發電機產生能量 .

On April 26, 1986, reactor 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded . Radioactive fallout ( 放射性的落塵 ) from Chernobyl spread throughout Europe and even reached Japan and the United States. Nearly 400,000 people were evacuated.

The explosion at Chernobyl acted like a volcano, blowing radioactive( 放射性的 ) particles( 微粒 ) far into the sky. Wind moved the plume( 煙塵 ), or cloud of radioactive particles, all around the world.
