A safety device prevents the circuitbreakerfrom being pushed in or drawnout while thebreaker is on.

The drawout handle cannot be insertedunless the OFF button is pressed.

The device is for locking the drawoutmechanism at the TEST position. This then

indicates the TEST position. The lock can be used during either thedrawing out or pushing-in operation.

The lock is released when the lock plate ispushed in,and the nextoperationbecomes possible.

Overview and description on the optional accessories

    Motor charging device (MD)

In additionto manual operation, the clos-ing spring can be charged automaticallyby an electric motor every timethebreakeris closed (ON charging method).

If the closing springis to be charged auto-matically whenever the breakeris opened, then this can be done through an addi-tional auxiliary contact (AXb) (OFF charg-ingmethod).As soon as charging is com-pleted, a visual display on the front says"CHARGED".

The "CHARGED" signal is also availablevia

    the413 (TS+) and414 (TS-) terminals(included in the standardMD configura-tion).

There is always the option of manual

operation in an emergency. A closing coil(CC) is required for closingthe breakerbyremotecontrol, and a shunt trip device(SHT) is required for openingit in this way.

This warrants the prevention of pumping, both electronically and mechanically. Thecircuitof themotor is separate fromtheON/OFF circuit (CC,SHT).

An interlock to prevent pumpingis pro-vided electrically. The pumpingpreven-tion is not performed, when the supply

voltageis 50 % or less the minimum ratedvoltage.

Closingtime is from the initial energiza-tion of the closing coil to thecompletionof the closing of the main contacts.

No pumpingprevention takes place if an

integrated auxiliary switch (AXb) is used asa cut-off switch.

An auxiliary contact with high switching

capacity shouldbe used with DC supplyvoltage (HAX).

The closing coil is a device to close thebreakerby remote control.Only one

closingsignal (about 100 msec.) is senteven when theclosingcoil supply is main-tained ON.

All functions marked in gray areincluded

    asstandardequipment(standardrelay MT1A).

This overview lists the maximum possible

    functionality of the units.

    Triprelayswith special functions (functions

wich are notmarked in gray)have to be

ordered seperately (please refer to orderinformation on page 30 and31).

Page 28 and following contain a detailleddescription of all special functions.

An external power supply for trip indi-cation and relay control is required forall type of relays. The voltagerangeforthe power supply must be within one ofthe following ranges:

    - 1: AC 100120 / 200240 V (standard)- 4: DC2460V

(other voltages on request)The LED will go out when the controlpower supply is interrupted or whenthe RESET button is pushed.

An external self-hold circuitis required,as the alarmsignal pulsehas a durationof only 0.03 sec.

The contact rating (A) for the signalrelays arelisted in the table below.

    Earth leakage protection (ER)

The earth leakage alarm facility is realised

with an electronictrip relay with earthleakage protection (ER characteristics) andan externalZCT (referto page 18 and 20).

When earth leakage current flows analarm is activated but the breakerdoes nottrip (see the earth leakage alarm systemwiring diagram).

If you require the breaker to trip uponearthleakageyou must also install an SHT

    device(see the earth leakagetripping sys-temwiring diagram).Observe the voltagerange specificationsforthevoltage trippingdevice SHT;the voltage tripping device (SHT)issuitable for250 V AC/DCor less.

The earth leakage protection is not avail-ablefor AE4000 to AE6300-SS breakers.

If the load current flowing through thebreakerexceeds the preset value the "PAL"LED lights up anda relay output is acti-vated.This is a useful option for ensuring a

    continuous power supply to an

important circuit. The operating characteristic shown in the

graph is proportional to half of thelong-time-delay tripping characteristic. Ithas been designed to prevent unneces-sary alarms from inrush currents to the

    load.

    TLrepresents the long-time delay time.

The general use relay output is of aself-hold type; the relay typefor generatorprotection features auto reset.(The con-trol power supply and reset button

required for theLED display is also used

    internally for the pre-alarm).

When ground fault currents of severalhundred amperes flow,it is possible thatthe long-time-delay or short-time-delayfunctions may not be able to protectthe

circuit. The ground fault function (GFR) canprovide the necessary protection in thesesituations. Response sensitivity can be setin the range 0.10.20.30.5,multiplied by

the maximum rated current (IN max. );oper-ating time can be set in the range

0.30.81.53 seconds. No control power supply is requiredforthis function.

Similary with a 3 pole breaker, groundfault protection is also possible for a3-phase, 3-wire circuit.

In a 3-phase, 4-wire circuit ground faultprotection is also possible if the3-pole breaker is combined with a neu-tral pole CT (NCT). See page 18 fordetails.

The ground fault protection is not avail-able if the max. rated current

    (IN max.) is less than 315 A or 500 A andless than 630 A for AE1000SH.
