แตละชุดประกอบดวย คำชี้แจง คำแนะนำ จุดประสงคการเรียนรู แบบทดสอบกอนเรียน เนื้อหาใบความรูแบบฝกหัด และแบบทดสอบหลังเรียนรวมทั้ง เฉลยแบบฝกหัด และแบบทดสอบกอนและหลังเรียน ผูเรียนสามารถใชเปนแบบฝก ประกอบการเรียนหรือเรียนรูไดดวยตนเองตามระดับความสามารถไมจำกัดเวลา นอกจากน้ีผูเรียนสามารถประเมินระดับความสามารถทางภาษาดวยตนเองจากเฉลย คำตอบของแบบฝกหัดในแตละบทและแบบทดสอบกอนและหลังเรียนในภาคผนวก และ ควรพยายามฝกฝนเพ่ือพัฒนาความสามารถทางภาษา ของตนใหอยูในระดับที่สูงขึ้น

1.ชุดการเรียนเทคนิคการอานภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเขาใจเลมนี้ผูเรียนสามารถใชประกอบการเรียนในชั้นเรียนหรือเรียนรูดวยตนเองตามความสามารถมีกิจกรรมใหผูเรียนฝกปฏิบัติ ทั้งศึกษาคำอธิบาย เนื้อหา และตัวอยางจากใบความรูทำกิจกรรมตามแบบฝกหัดที่กำหนด และประเมินผลดวยตนเองจากเฉลยในแตละบท 2. การปฏิบัติกิจกรรมในชุดการเรียนประกอบดวยขั้นตอน ดังนี้ 2.1 ทำแบบทดสอบกอนเรียน 2.2 ศึกษาคำอธิบายเนื้อหา และตัวอยางจากใบความรู 2.3 ทำแบบฝกหัดที่กำหนด 2.4 ทำแบบทดสอบหลังเรียน 2.5 ประเมินผลความกาวหนาของตนเอง 3.ชุดการเรียนนี้ไมใชแบบทดสอบ จึงไมควรวิตกกังวลแตมุงใหผูเรียนเรียนรูดวยตนเองตามความสามารถ 4.ควรมีสมาธิ และความซื่อสัตยตอตนเองในขณะศึกษาบทเรียน และปฏิบัติกิจกรรม โดยไมเปดดูเฉลยคำตอบกอนทำเสร็จ 5.ทำกิจกรรมตามใบงานที่กำหนดดวยความมั่นใจ ถาทำไมไดหรือสงสัยใด ๆ ใหพยายามศึกษาทบทวนบทเรียนที่ผานมาและตรวจคำตอบกับเฉลยไดทันที หลังจากทำกิจกรรมเสร็จสิ้นแลว 6.เมื่อศึกษาเนื้อหาจนจบบทเรียนแลว ใหทำแบบทดสอบหลังเรียนเพื่อ ประเมินวาผูเรียนมีความรูความเขาใจเน้ือหาท้ังหมดมากนอยเพียงใดอีกครั้งหน่ึงและดูเฉลยแบบทดสอบหลังเรียนไดในภาคผนวก ผูเรียนสามารถทราบผลการพัฒนาตนเองไดจากการเปรียบเทียบผลคะแนนจากการทดสอบกอนและหลังเรียน

Inference หรือการสรุปความ ไดแก การลงความเห็น การวินิจฉัย หรือ การสรุปความคิดรวบยอดอยางมีเหตุผลซึ่งผูอานไมสามารถหาคำตอบไดโดยตรงจาก เนื้อเรื่อง แตตองอาศัยความรูหรือประสบการณสวนตัว จึงจะสามารถสรุปความจาก เนื้อเรื่องที่อานไดอยางถูกตอง ตัวอยางเชน

“The moon wasn’t bright enough to see the Eiffel Tower in the background.”

Question: Where was the speaker?Answer: In France.Question: What time was it?Answer: At night.

ประโยคตัวอยาง กลาวเพียงวา “ดวงจันทรไมสวางพอท่ีจะทำใหเห็นหอไอเฟล ที่อยูขางหลัง” แตผูอานสามารถตอบคำถามเกี่ยวกับสถานที่และเวลาท่ี เกี่ยวของได ทั้งนี้เนื่องจากการสรุปขอมูลจากขอความผสมผสานกับความรูสวนตัว เชน ทราบวา หอไอเฟลนั้น อยูที่ฝรั่งเศส และเวลาตองเปนชวงกลางคืนเพราะมีดวงจันทร นั่นเอง

สวนในประโยคน้ี กลาววา“ตำรวจพบขวดวิสก้ีเปลา 2 ขวดในรถท่ี เกิด อุบัติเหตุ” ซึ่งผูอานสามารถตอบไดวา สาเหตุของอุบัติเหตุก็คือ เมาสุรา โดยสรุปความจาก two empty whisky bottles (ขวดวิสกี้เปลา 2 ขวด) อาจกลาวไดวา คำถามประเภทสรุปความ เปนคำถามที่ยากที่สุดในบรรดา คำถามทุกประเภทท่ีใชวัดความเขาใจในการอาน และการท่ีจะบอกไดวาผูอานสามารถ อานขอความไดอยางมีประสิทธิภาพ ก็ยอมหมายความวาผูอานสามารถตอบคำถาม ประเภทสรุปความไดอยางถูกตองดวย แมวาคำถามประเภทสรุปความจะเปนคำถามท่ียากท่ีสุด แตแทท่ีจริงแลววิธีการสรุปความก็ไมใชเรื่องใหมสำหรับผูอานเลย ปกติเรามักจะใชการสรุปอยูเปนประจำในชีวิตประจำวัน โดยพิจารณาจากการบรรยาย ขอเท็จจริง ความคิดเห็นประสบการณ หรือการสังเกต เชน ผูคนท่ีเดินผานไปผานมา เม่ือเห็นรถดับเพลิงจำนวนหลายคันเปด

ไซเรน และว่ิงมุงหนาไปยังทิศทางเดียวกัน ก็สามารถสรุปไดวา มีเพลิงไหมเกิดขึ้น ทั้งนี้เปนการสรุปโดยอาศัยประสบการณที่มีอยู การสรุปความ (Making Inference) เปนกระบวนการคิดในระดับสูงที่ผูอานตองอาศัยขอเท็จจริงที่อยูในเรื่องเปนพื้นฐานในการพิจารณา วิธีการหนึ่งที่ดีที่สุด ในการเรียนรู และพัฒนาความสามารถในการสรุปอยางมีเหตุผล ไดแก การศึกษาการสรุปอยางถูกตองมีเหตุผล จากตัวอยางตาง ๆ จำนวนมาก เพื่อสรางประสบการณและเพิ่มพูนความชำนาญในการสรุปจากขอความที่อานดวยตนเอง ในการพัฒนาความสามารถในการสรุปความ หรือตีความ ผูอานสามารถดำเนินตามขั้นตอนได ดังนี้

1) อานขอความแตละประโยคอยางระมดัระวัง2) พิจารณาขอเท็จจริง (facts) ที่พบในขอความ3) เชื่อมโยงขอเท็จจริงทั้งหมดที่อานเขาดวยกัน เพื่อดูความตอเนื่อง4) สรุปความอยางมีเหตุผล โดยอาศัยความจริงที่ปรากฏในขอความเปนพื้นฐาน5) ตรวจสอบความถูกตองของขอความที่สรุป วามาจากขอเท็จจริงที่ปรากฏใน

เนื้อเรื่อง นอกจากน้ี ผูอานสามารถสังเกตจากคำถามท่ีตองการใหผูอานสรุปความโดย มักเปนประโยคคำถาม หรือเริ่มตนประโยค ในลักษณะดังตอไปนี้ ดังนี้ * What can be inferred from the passage? (เราสามารถสรุปอะไรไดจากขอความที่อาน) * Which of the following can be inferred from the passage? (ขอใดตอไปนี้ที่สามารถสรุปไดจากขอความที่อาน) * The author implies that ................. (ผูประพันธบอกเปนนัยวา....) * It is implied in passage that ........................... (จากขอความที่อานสามารถบอกเปนนัยไดวา........) * It is most likely that ...........................
